Sal's Sassy Sauce

Born and raised in Syracuse, college in Rochester, and ever since I’ve left NY I’ve been craving this for my wings and wedges. So glad I’ve found it here. This is it. Get it.

I was first introduced to Sal's Birdland in Rochester NY when I was a medical student in Syracuse in 1978. We used to drive over an hour to get "the boyd" -- a half a chicken deep fried and "swimming" in the sweetish pungent hottest sauce our tongues could handle, all served over a slice of white bread. Pretty gruesome, since the idea was to eat the chicken and mop up the remainder of the sauce with the bread... all without drinking ANY water. WOW!! Anyway, to this day, there is no other hot sauce I'd prefer with my chicken than Sal's. You GOTTA try it! Can't live without it! It's the barbecue equivalent of White Castles for a New Yorker!

My wife went to school in Rochester and spoke fondly of eating at Sal’s Birdland. Of course where do you look for everything? Amazon. Bought 2 bottles (mild and hot) and they were delivered quickly as ordered. They have a very noticeable citrus base and not something I would have guessed would work so well but they are delicious. My wife was taken back in time and loves having some around.

This sauce is sweet, spicy and tangy like mustard. The consistency is like that of an Asian sweet and sour sauce. It tastes good on chicken, fish, veggies and even leftover Chinese food. You can see those little red chile pepper flakes in it, but this one is the mild and I'd say it is just a little spicier than Taco Bell mild sauce. It's great to cure those sweet and spicy cravings. Enjoy!! Be sure if you want the mild that you get the mild, the bottles are relatively the same looking between hot and mild. Only difference is it says mild or hot real small to the right of where it says SASSY SAUCE. Pay attention: as the hot is significantly hotter.

From Rochester, moved to WA. Had to buy it even though my cheap self says $13 a bottle? What the? Can they make a bigger gallon jug for a lesser price per oz? Probably not. But I tried!

Couldn't stand it any longer.... Just needed a little piece of home. Sal's Sassy is our favorite. I live in FL now and just ordered this for Father's Day. Opened it early, as we couldn't wait! Delicious. Glad I can order.

Another flavor I missed from my days at the University of Rochester, this sauce has a little more kick than Country Sweet, and maybe a little broader 'flavor envelope', and I am so glad I could find it at a reasonable price on Amazon to bring it down South! I think I might still veer more towards Country Sweet, but if you get one, have the other around for those days you need to change up...Now if only Nick's Garbage Plates could be found on Amazon!Thanks,Blaine
