Nice made calipers
It works as it should and the titanium head seems nicer than the plastic ones. The battery will stay in place and not fall out due to a missing or cracked plastic cover. Widest it opens is 306.24mm/12.0565in/12 7/128 in. It flickers from 306.23 to 306.24. 12.0565 inches = 306.2351mm so this would not work for measuring to a thousandth of a millimeter and on a hundredth it rounds off. Accurate to a tenth of a millimeter is good for me at this price. I am going to use it for simple projects around my house and to check measurements of different items such as tool and hardware parts. The fit of the box is not as good as I would like. It is serviceable but the calipers can shift out of the precut out foam and the top foam does not do enough to keep it in place. If I place the calipers in the box then gently shake or even carry it wrong when I open the box the calipers are now sitting on top of the foam at an angle not inside it. I with either bet better foam or other material and cut it out with an xacto knife or most likely fashion on out of wood. The case has weird fake wood grain on it with a crocodile like pattern in the middle resembling a thumbprint. I'm making a wooden box but maybe put another layer of foam on the top section affixed with adhesive spray.

Works well
This piece obviously is not a Starrett or Mitutoyo but it gets the job done. I have one 4" and several 6" Calipers both digital and dial types plus a variety of micrometers to compare this to. I needed a longer capacity tool to make and check set ups on wood working machines. So I did some searching and came across this one. It was one of the cheaper 12" units but I decided to order it anyway. It seems to gives good accuracy and repeatable readings when compared to my Mitutoyo but I'm not sure if it would fill the bill in a precision machine shop. For my needs it works great. Fit and Finish are better than expected on a economy tool. One minor complaint: To open the battery compartment a small Phillips screw driver is required. They provided one with a foam cutout in the case but the cutout is for a different style driver and doesn't come close to fitting. Very minor.I would recommend this caliper as long as you aren't looking for super accuracy.

For the money, these calipers are fantastic.
I needed a medium range set of digital calipers for mold making. I have to square up large chunks of aluminum in our CNC mills, and the standard Mitutoyo 8" coolant proof ones I use were too small, and the giant 24" ones are way too big. So, I was looking for something in the 12" range. Bingo, this fit the bill for measurements that were not really critical beyond 0.005" tolerance. I haven't checked them on a gauge block, but from comparing what the CNC said I milled to what the calipers said I milled, they meet my tolerances just fine. These calipers have a full metal body, and if you asked me without knowing the price, I'd assume they were at least $150-200. The Carrera name probably gives away the fact that they aren't all that expensive. $36 is cheap enough to use one job, one day. I've already used them a ton in the past week. One note, it comes with two batteries, on installed, and one separate. The one installed was dead, so luckily it came with a backup. However, they use the same SR44 batteries as the Mitutoyo calipers, so I probably have a couple around anyways.

No Batteries, but it Appears Sturdy...
*** As I have yet to operate this device with a battery, this review similarly has yet to concern the full operation of the device. ***Despite the promise of a spare battery, per the description given, the caliper arrived with no batteries to be found. It appears sturdy and its mechanical operation is smooth. While it necessarily makes changing the battery one screw driver more complicated, I really like the all metal design of the electronics housing. It seems like a small difference, but it might make small acts of carelessness in the vicinity of large presses a little less likely and/or costly in the long run.I will update my review to reflect the performance of the calipers when I can power it up. I anticipate that its operation will be worthy of five stars once I get a battery into it. It will be hard to give that last star given the (admittedly first world problem worthy) hassle of getting the battery; as my current work significantly limits my free time.

Every time I turn it on it needs a new battery
I bought this 8 years ago, but use once-twice a year, as I have mechanical ones that I am not afraid to break. Every time I try to use this electronic one I have to replace the battery. I carved out the foam to make sure it does not push on any buttons and even installed a bit of foam to keep it in place - no help. I confirm each time that it is off when I close the box. It works well, but is expensive and extremely inconvenient with constant battery changes.

you get what you pay for
I have many hours under my belt using precision instruments and this set of calipers is far from professional. You get what you pay for. One of the things that bug me the most is the different size font for the readout. Inches and tens are large then tenths and on are half the size. You have to be careful when reading. One nice thing about them is the auto power on and off. As soon as you touch them they turn on and turn off after a minute or two of non use. We needed an affordable set of 12" calipers and that's what we got. Again, you get what you pay for. They do get the job done. But, these do not belong in a production atmosphere.

Too fractional
I like this device, however it is somewhat difficult to use because it is as fine as 1/128th and there is no way to set it to a higher fraction like 1/32nd. 1/128th is nice but too fine for most woodworkers. If I were to chose again I would get one that allows a higher rounding decimal or let me determine how fine a reading to set it too. Try figuring out 57/128ths to the nearest 16th in your head quickly.
