Before you buy: How thick is your hair?
I have a head of hair that one hair stylist after the other, for many, many years, has told me if it is not the thickest head of hair they've cut, it is one of the thickest. I have been repeatedly told that I have enough hair for THREE people and the average head of hair has 1/3 less than me (Have heard this said by a dozen stylists). I am not talking about how course my hair is because its texture is average. I am talking about the number of strands I have on my head. This is the very first barrette I have ever been able to use on a French Twist. I have NEVER been successful in quickly pinning up my hair in a French Twist, with a barrette, even ones I occasionally find that can clip my hair into a ponytail. As far as using this barrette for a ponytail....I haven't tried it all day. I did clip it back and I wonder if it would be secure, staying in one place all day. This barrette is really meant to hold that much hair! I am someone who feels lucky when a find a barrette I can use for a ponytail, too. I hold onto those until they eventual break, many years later.I am thrilled that I can now quickly pin my hair up into a beautiful French Twist. I recently found a clip that could also do it but it would not last all day. This can last all day.I highly recommend this barrette to someone who also has monster thick hair. I am NOT talking about voluminous hair--some hair has volume even though it is not ultra thick. Often ultra thick hair is too heavy to have massive volume so, it gets weighed down (Me). I am talking about a head of hair where the stylist says, "You have enough hair for three people."

Quality brand
Ok so I love France Luxe clips and barrettes etc. How did I know I did? So literally over 20 years ago I had this barrette I wore constantly- and I mean constantly- like at school, running, swimming (it went with me into lakes and pools!!!) - yes, I used and abused this clip. I’m that kind of low-maintenance (well, when it comes to hair anyway...) girl. I used this barrette over and over because it was tried and true. The clip always snapped firmly closed. It wasn’t flimsy. When it snapped shut I knew my hair wasn’t going anywhere. It was beautiful- just this classic tortoise shell design that went with tons of outfits. It did start to fade...the beautiful luster it once had was getting dim from chlorine and sun ...but that was after like 10 years of near daily use.Don’t get me wrong- there were other clips I had bought when I went looking for a change or if I travelled somewhere and had forgotten it - like CVS types and various cheap drugstore ones - in defense of drugstores I may have originally bought my clip from a drugstore- thing is I don’t remember really where I had bought it. But after numerous cheaper brands breaking or popping open and getting frustrated with repeatedly buying cheap clips I thought hmmm...I wonder if I can buy another one of my trusty clips? So I looked at it closely for the very first time....I turned it over and there etched in tiny letters on the metallic clasp I read “France Luxe.”Well...thanks to the Internet I did some digging and found out this was like a real brand and has lots of hair products. And much to my delight Amazon had them available! So long story short - I bought a few from Amazon and so far, I think the quality is still there when comparing to my barrette from 20+ years ago.Now as for this particular barrette - yes, please be aware that this design is only for the thickest of thick hair. I had thought I had thick hair but even for my hair it’s too big. So unfortunately it’s kind of useless for me and I’ll have to find someone I can give it to.I’d say if you have more average thick hair, their classic rectangle clip is what you’ll want - that size will still hold your hair up in a chignon or half up style - or a ponytail etc.Anywho I do highly recommend this brand. Yes it’s expensive - but if you’re weighing cost against usage you’ll probably end up saving money in the long run by not buying junky cheap clips that break or don’t hold your hair.

Only For Monster Thick Hair
This barrette is for monster thick hair. I bought it to hold my ponytail. The circumference of my ponytail is 4-1/2 inches and I have moderately thick hair. The barrette slid right off the ponytail. I tried using a very thick rubber band and making two ponytails and then banding them together but neither method worked. There's a flimsy, wavy bar on the inside of the barrette which accommodates the hair. I tried manipulating the bar to make the area for hair more shallow but that didn't work either. The barrette is beautiful so I really struggled to make it work and, sadly, had to return it.

I finally found it: a barrette for truly thick hair.
Yes! This is the first barrette in history that holds my ponytail (5 1/2 inches in circumference). The beauty of the barrette itself is simply a bonus for me. Worth the price, especially after buying way too many barrettes "for thick hair" that broke or didn't come close to holding my hair (not even to pull the sides up). This is my third France Luxe barrette. I love all of them.

Love
I am a senior and have always had lots of hair. I have broken countless barrettes in my lifetime and had given up wearing them until I found this one. This barrette is on the expensive side but calculating how many I have purchased, broken and thrown away over the years.... this is a bargan. I now own 4 in different colors and am enjoying wearing them.

Ideal for french twists
This is ideal for French knots but too big for pulling my hair back to a pony tail. I wish the design was a bit less curved as I find it a bit awkward to close the clasp once my hair is styled. Yeah, it's a weird comment but for whatever reason, ergonomically the curve places the clasp in a more challenging to close position. Still - I recommend this for chignons and french knots. You'd have to have EXTREMELY thick hair for this to be your go-to pony tail barrette in my opinion. For this, I recommend the Caravan Ripple Hump, also sold on Amazon.

Great for long thick hair
If you’re looking for a large barrette for thick hair, this should work for you. It’s def the largest barrette I’ve ever found! It’s a bit pricey and clip part doesn’t seem to be real well made, but holding up so far and it does look pretty

Wow! Great Barette
I have long thick hair that I frequently pull up in French twist style. It holds all my hair firmly in place without pulling or causing any discomfort! I was skeptical but glad to be proven wrong. Worth the cost.
