The Golden Compass Graphic Novel, Volume 1 (His Dark Materials) Paperback – September 22, 2015

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials is one of my personal favorites of all time. The themes contained within the work are timeless and brilliant.I was hoping this graphic novel would live up to it's source material, and for the most part it does. Beautiful style and art that matches the tone to perfection.I recommend it firstly to fans of the book series, and secondly, to anyone looking for a story to enjoy and be challenged by.

The art style is definitely a bit strange. More reminiscent of a rough Craig Thompson (Author of Blankets), but still a fun journeyI wish it was a bit more detailed. But it's a nice piece regardless

This graphic novel is unique. It's the same story as the book and the movie, but the artistry sets it apart and makes it unique. It's worth reading and looking at again. It's quality just might surprise you. Good luck.

The graphic novel of Northern Lights is not exactly what I expected. The art is very sketchy, reminiscent of the Madeline series of children's books... or perhaps a cross between the art of Maus and the comic strip Cathy. Something about it looks very... French. It was published in the UK, but Stephanie Melichior and Clement Oubrerie are the creative team. It looks to have been originally published in French, because there is a credit for "translation." The lettering is very basic. I can tell it was printed in a single font, single size, on a computer. The only variation is the occasional speech bubble printed in bold. I expected more of a polished, professional look from this adaptation. This is volume one of three that cover Northern Lights, the first book in Pullman's trilogy. I'm impressed that someone made an adaptation of the series, but less than impressed with the product. I will not be buying the remainder of the series.

We were really excited for these graphic novels when we heard about them. Quite frankly, though, the art is pretty poor. We won't be buying the rest of the series.

Really love the design and idea of these books. My daughter isn't the most avid reader but this book pulled her in. I am so pleased when she gets the same buzz from reading that I do, because reading rocks! Now she loves audiobooks, graphic novels and I'm so pleased!

Great read for my children. Makes it easy for them to dive into the actual story book later.
