Tastes like Grandma's za'atar!
I live in Hawaii, so it's kind of hard to find a good selection of Middle Eastern spices for my old family recipes. I was thrilled to discover a "boutique," organic, spice company offering Za'atar on Amazon (as opposed to one pound bags of stale, mass-produced, non-organic spice mixes.) So far, I've only used it on manoush but I'm very happy with the flavor. I'm four generations removed from my original 19th century Lebanese-immigrant ancestors, so I don't have any experience with genuine food from the region that my family originated from, so I can't say if this za'atar is authentic-tasting. I can tell you that I find it very flavorful, with lots of nuance. It makes my manoush taste like my Grandma's, so that's good. I look forward to trying it in other dishes and I will definitely try other products by the Teeny Tiny Spice Co of Vermont (great name, btw!)PS - Writing reviews has become an accidental hobby for me, and it always makes my day to know that people find my reviews helpful (and if not, why.)

Wonderful!
This spice was recommended by a friend and I love it. I've used it on fish, chicken, and in salad dressing. The Teeny Tiny Spice Co. sells high quality products and the packaging keeps the contents fresh and the aroma is wonderful. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to perk up even the simplest recipes! Nice change of pace!

Exotic
A long time ago there was this small Persian restaurant that mostly just made kebabs. Quite simple, a few options including meant or veg and grilling them over an open flame. Not bad, but the real highlight was the seasoning they put on the rice they served it with. It was deliciously tangy and a pretty reddish color. I curse myself for not extracting what it was in the brief time they were open. Since then I have come to understand it was something with sumac berries in it.While I knew this wasn't it from the start, I thought I'd give it a try. I'd have to say the taste is nothing like you'd taste in standard American cuisine. The mix was very fresh even for being all dried ingredients. I thought the taste was interesting, but a bit too heavy on thyme for my personal taste. If you've ever had a type of flat bread that has some dried herbs and sesame seeds spread on it, tastes just like that!Aside from personally not being used to such heavy use of thyme, I think the thing that has prevented me from experimenting with it more is something in it isn't ground up very well ( sumac berries?) which makes for gritty texture and gets stuck in my teeth.

Recreating a Blue Apron Meal
I was trying to recreate a Blue Apron meal. So off I went to the grocery store looking for all the ingredients. They didn't have Za'atar, so I used my phone to look up what exactly it was. I started collecting the spices in my cart to try to recreate Za'atar, but couldn't find one thing on the list. Plus, the amount of money I was racking up and the doubt that I would actually be able to mix the ingredients to the perfect match was starting to worry me. Then all of the sudden it hit me--Look it up on Amazon! Lo and behold this product came up. I hit 'buy' right there in the aisle at the store. What a time to be alive! The spice tastes fresh! And really not very pricey at all. I have made the dish a few times and have tons more Za'atar to last me a long time. Great buy!

Wow
This blend was fantastic. I will definitely be trying more of their blends. Already turned a few friends onto this company. Not overly salted like a lot of cheap low quality blends. Herbs were clearly recently dried. One of the highest quality blends I've had in a long time.

Delicious herb blend for my homemade salad dressing - recipe below
I'm on my second can of the Za'atar spice blend and absolutely love it! I use it when I make my homemade hummus and I also make an easy salad dressing using this blend of spices. I just use:1/2 cup organic extra virgin olive oil1/3 cup organic apple cider vinegar1 Tablespoon of the Za-atar spice blendPut them in a jar and shake it up. This is enough for a few salads. It's delicious and much healthier than many of the pre-made salad dressings you buy in the supermarket. Thanks Teeny Tiny Spice Co. of Vermont. I will continue using these spices as long as you make them. And thanks for the can instead of a bottle. I find the can much easier to open and close when I make my recipes.

Tasty when it's not filled with moths.
I've bought your Za'atar twice in the last year. The first one was normal, and tasted GREAT, but eventually, became home to moths, so I threw it out.On June 27th this year, I re-ordered a container from you. I opened it yesterday (it was a SEALED CONTAINER) and, to my surprise and horror, it was FILLED with moths. Clearly, the moths came from something inside one of the spices used in the mix.I contacted this seller and told them what I found, and never got a response from them.I was very disappointed that the Teeny Tiny Spice Co. of Vermont did not stand by a product bought by a customer who has purchased many items in the past and enjoyed them. I was VERY disappointed (and somewhat horrified) that they were unresponsive regarding insect contamination of their spices, when spices are the only things they sell.

Disappointing
I really wanted to love this product. Small company in VT, organic and kosher, Himalayan pink salt, high quality ingredients and good reviews. Unfortunately, although I LOVE Za'atar, this blend will not be one I use often. It really seems heavy on the marjoram thyme, oregano, basil- more like an "Italian" herb blend than a middle eastern Za'atar. Sorry...I really thought I'd like it more.I will say that the herbs are lovely- super fresh and smell wonderful, it's just not the balance I was wanting in a Za'atar- which is indeed very individual. I'll tinker with it and add some things to get what I was looking for.
