Our speech therapist recommended realistic image 'photo' cards to introduce words into our two-year old's vocabulary. Catagories, along with the other cards from this company, were a perfect starting point for us. The cards are glossy, cardstock weight, and feature bright images that may be organized in a variety of ways. Included are instructions for games and how-to's for this set. The hard plastic case is great for storage and keeping the cards organized. We have spilled various toddler-esque things on these cards, they have been trampled, crunched, and still they hold up to all the abuse typical of a toddler. I feel that they will last a long time.

Fun Game Play.
I bought these to help language development with one of my toddlers but the cards have come in equally handy with my pre-schooler who has learned new words and games using them. These are heavy duty, fun and bright colors! There are many different ways to organize the items into categories or colors to play multiple types of games such as - which one doesn't belong.--> Great Quality Cards, Heavy Stock--> Bright and Colorful Pictures--> Case is also durable-->Wipe clean with a lightly damp rag--> Categorical items, lead to multiple game play.5 Stars!

very flexible product
I can understand the other reviewer's disappointment in not getting what she though she was purchasing but I have to disagree with her conclusions. Having each item pictured on a separate card makes these flashcards much more flexible. You can ask your child to "find all the fruits" or show your child the three fruit cards and ask what category they all belong to or just go through the cards one at a time and have your child name them. You can even make up simple go fish and memory games. While these cards clearly have educational value, the pictures are so attractive I have found that my toddlers and preschoolers simply like looking at them. I keep them in my diaper bag for quick impromptu activities while in waiting rooms.

Worth it
My 2 year old loves these! Even though most of the time they end up in a giant pile on the floor, she constantly asks to look at them and it gives us an opportunity to talk about the images and integrate them into our other activities. I love that the pictures aren't cartoonish and they actually look exactly like their real life counterparts and because she uses them so much, that they're thick and durable

Some good pictures here but I expected better categories
Some good pictures here but I expected better categories. Also there’s only 3 pictures per category. I would have preferred 5 and better objects. Like having three types of balls is not a category. I also like the instrument category but use instruments that are more common. Same thing with the outdated toys category. Then they do sea animal and have a fish starfish and seahorse?? What happened to the octopus or shark??

Kid Friendly
I use this product for skill building with children that have developmental delays. The pictures are bright and having the plain white background helps limit distractions. The cards are larger and more entertaining to my younger clients.

Great flash cards!
My son is 2 and not talking much so I bought these flash cards to help him and they are amazing. So many different activities that we can do with them. Nice quality and finish. It has survived almost 3 full months being used and bent daily by my toddler. I recommend it.

Overall a good learning tool, great value for money
Pretty good product, but a few minor issues. Overall though, it is good value for money.Pros:1. Large, sturdy pics; more durable than most flashcards2. Reclosable highly durable metal case3. Large number of cardsCons:1. Many categories with comparatively few cards per category. I would have preferred the other way around (Not the end of the world because you can put 2 related categories together, e.g. Flying animals and Land animals to make a more general "animals" category).2. Cards are slightly rectangular - when putting them away it is a bit more frustrating than if they were square. Even if they were very rectangular it would be OK - but these are just a little off from square-size so it is a bit annoying when putting them away.3. Some categories were not represented here (e.g. they didn't make a Transportation or Vehicles category)4. Some categories not well thought-out (e.g. Things You Wear on Your Head consisted solely of hats - I couldn't see why they didn't consider sunglasses or earmuffs, for example, while "Sports equipment" consisted solely of balls and no bats or goals etc.)Overall, it all comes down to what you're using it for. I still feel that despite its negatives it is pretty good value for money. I would sum up by saying the physical parts of the product are mostly excellent, while the thinking behind it could have been improved. It still works out for us, but only by combining 2 related categories together to make one bigger one. Fortunately, their categories are designed that you can do that with most of them.
