I didn't expect such an upgrade.
I bought my most recent Kindle before this one in '18; it's a tenth gen Kindle, compared to this Kindle's eleventh gen, and as such I didn't expect a big upgrade. Mostly my Kindle has been getting a little old and crotchety, and it seemed like I might be wise to replace/supplement it BEFORE it died completely.I was more than happy just to be getting a new Paperwhite with a bit of money off due to the combination of the sale, this being the kids' version (yes, it's very easy to get out of the kids' part and then it works like a normal kindle), and an extra discount for my trade in of an old and defunct voyage (I adored the voyage when it worked, page turn buttons beloved, but it was by far the least reliable kindle I've had). I was entirely expecting, bar the warm light feature, to find a kindle very much like the one I'm used to; I was pleasantly surprised! The device itself is a little bigger than the previous PW, about a finger width taller and wider, so it may prove slightly less convenient for simply shoving in a pocket (I might be making the previous one my leaving-the-house kindle for this reason), but the same or maybe slightly slimmer in profile (given both kindles being in the case Amazon marketed for them). The first thing I noticed was that the screen is significantly bigger; slight wider but notably taller, due to both the size of the device and the slightly narrow (at the sides) and much narrower (at the top) bezel. For practice purposes, this is a significant increase in how much text will fit on one page, some 9 or ten characters width wise and half a dozen lines extra. It's surprising how much new text that represents on the page! The second thing I noticed, once it had done the jiggery pokery of discovering my library, and all the other bits and pieces which make kindles initially slow, was how fast responding it was. Granted, my other kindle is five years old, but it has absolutely bags of memory and is only one generation removed from this one. I don't think even my voyage when it was brand spanking new was as fast as this one. It also feels like it downloads books more quickly, I'm not sure if that's my perception because everything responds faster or if I'm right, but the user experience is considerably less frustrating.I think it's factually a little heavier than its predecessor, but in my hand it feels a little lighter - maybe because it's also a little bigger so the weight is more spread out? I'm not sure. I do think if you found the previous Paperwhite at all difficult to hold one handed, this one might be a bit of s struggle, but speaking for myself, it's not been an issue. I am still getting used to the narrower top bevel - I didn't realise that I sometimes put a finger there, and if I'm touching the screen there it can confuse the kindle's tiny little mind for a moment when I try to turn a page with a finger elsewhere. I don't think it's going to be too hard to get used to, though, it's only happened a couple of times and I'm figuring out the narrower bevels. I would love physical page turn buttons such as on the voyage or oasis, but it seems Amazon are dedicated to keeping those for the expensive models I can't currently afford so 🤷🏻 such is life. It's s small niggle and I'm mostly used to going without at this point. The included case is cute and colourful. I personally would've chosen a less lime green colour for the plastic parts and lining, but it's not highly offensive, just a little bright. Given it was effectively free, as opposed to £40+ for an Amazon case, I'm absolutely fine with it, and the actual design on the outside is adorable. The lining is soft to protect the screen and is pleasant on my fingers, the wake function works perfectly, and the whole thing feels reassuringly sturdy. The charger is USB C - yay! - and all the USB C cables I've tried with it have worked perfectly. The warm light is a bonus and easy to set u (I suspect warm light x low brightness x dark mode is going to help a lot for future migraines), and I feel like there's more range in how bright or dim you can set the backlight as compared to the older model.About the only let down is that the kids+ subscription seems less than amazing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not paying for it, so no big, but I thought I'd have a poke around, and so far I'm unimpressed. The search function seems janky and while there may well be 1K books available, everything I could be bothered to scroll through was uninspiring. As an advert for the subscription, it isn't the best. The mobile app also has some games and things on it, but as a companion for a kindle device, it's pretty eh. However, as I say, it's free, so really it's no skin off my nose. I haven't figured out if I can keep the rest of my subscription period access if I cancel it now, but unless I discover a motherlode of excellence soon, I don't think it'd bother me to just lose the rest of it. It sounded like it was going to be kindle unlimited but just the kids version; as it is, though, it's pretty meh. Some people must find it worthwhile or they wouldn't offer it, but I looked with my nephews in mind, and even when they were considerably younger, I don't believe there would've been enough here to make it worth the money.Overall, though, I'm very happy with it; this is a substantial improvement over my previous kindle in all respects I can think of/have tested so far, the two year warranty and the free case/lack of ads is great, and it has instantly become my main kindle. Generally a great buy, very pleased with my purchase.

Perfect for Family Reading
I recently got the Kindle Paperwhite Kids edition for myself, with the intention of sharing it with my children, and it's been a fantastic addition. Here's why it's been such a hit:Pros:1. Long Battery Life: I'm pleasantly surprised by how infrequently I need to charge it. It's a relief not to worry about running out of battery.2. Clear, High-Resolution Screen: The 300ppi (pixels per inch) display is a standout feature. It ensures incredibly sharp text and images. Additionally, with 17 LEDs illuminating the screen, it provides an evenly lit reading experience, which is especially appreciated during nighttime reading sessions.3. Included Cover: Unlike the regular Paperwhite, the Kids edition comes with a sturdy cover. It not only protects the device but also adds a fun touch.4. Kids+ Subscription: The one-year subscription to Kids+ is a huge bonus. It's like having a library of kid-friendly books at our fingertips.5. Excellent Support Team: I initially had some difficulties during setup due to my account being US-based. However, the support team was incredibly fast and efficient in helping me switch it to the UK, where I've been living for the past year.Cons:1. Not as Fast as a Smartphone: While the Kindle isn't as fast as a smartphone, it's important to remember that it's designed for a different purpose - primarily for reading.2. None So Far: I honestly haven't encountered any other significant issues.Final Thoughts:The Kindle Paperwhite Kids edition is a top-notch choice for family reading. The included cover and Kids+ subscription set it apart from the standard Paperwhite. It's user-friendly, durable, and offers a wealth of age-appropriate books. I couldn't be happier with this purchase!

Amazing
Having debated on getting this for a while after having kindle unlimited on my phone for afew years I finally did it.I like this as although it is a kids one I can have my adult kindle account on it aswell which has locks on so can be used by both parent and child. It has no ads which is even better and comes with the case in comparison to the normal kindle. It is simple and easy to carry around with me and fits in basically everything I have put it in so far.It takes a bit of time getting used to holding the size of it but it is definitely better than a book. Have found with the brightness it is great as it is adjustable to different settings with both a cool and warm option. The lighting used it is also not straining my eyes as much as using kindle off my phone which is a lot better before bed. I like that in the evening I can now stop screen time and I am getting better sleep. The service with it works the same as my phone and haven’t had any problems with it.Very pleased with my purchase 10/10
