Wow! This is one big thermometer
It is massive, that was the first impression I got when I unpacked it. Well packaged, with instructions on the back. This looks like it will last a lifetime, so worth the price. Well made item, will be using it for sweet making.

Easy to use and read but needs a storage case
We recently borrowed an old 1960's/1970's jam thermometer and this review is based on this timely comparison.✅ This is really easy to use and read the temperature reading - it's analog rather than digital so no backlit LED screen here.✅ We really like the adjustable pan clip. this is where this newer version scored better than the much old one we tested. This clip allows it to stay in place and stops it from slipping round the pan. This is the best feature by far!✅ Good heat resistant handle on the top stops from you getting burnt.✅ Celsius and Fahrenheit markings plus standard sugar temperatures for sugar works etc.We didn't score this 5 stars because we think it needs a storage case to protect it. The 1960's one we tried was tubular and wasn't as easy to read but came with a thick cardboard sleeve allow for easy storage. This one is flatter and doesn't have a protective case. this just makes it harder to store to protect it

Takes the guesswork out of jam and confectionery making...
The first thing that was apparent about this Taylor Jam Thermometer was its great build quality. Made of a high gauge stainless steel, there's a strong black plastic handle at the top which makes it easy to remove from a pan as it stays cool. A sturdy stainless steel clip at the reverse allows it to be positioned on the side of the pan. And as jam pans tend to be quite large, so is this thermometer at 30x5cm/11.8x1.9".It has been extremely well though out in all ways. The thermometer shows measurements in both Celsius and Fahrenheit from 20 to 60C/200 to 400F - all clearly marked and easy to read in black against the stainless steel. Usefully, it also indicates the setting points for sugars. As I write, I'm aware there's also a Taylor Pro Jam Thermometer listed on Amazon with an rrp round about £5 more expensive than this one. I couldn't detect much difference with the Pro beyond that it's curved to fit with the curve of the pan. And with the Pro, the branding is on the plastic handle, not at the top part of the stainless steel.Taylor is a US brand specialising in scales and temperature measuring equipment - this jam thermometer was designed in Chicago. It was sold off a few years ago and longstanding UK company appear to now be producing its range of kitchen wares in this country. This jam thermometer is very well designed and will take all the back of a spoon guesswork out of jam making for me. Also good if you're showing someone how and they ask that dreaded question 'But how do you actually KNOW it's right?'

Perfect for jams and toffee etc. Easy to see.
This jam thermometer is perfect for me, especially at this time of year when I am making lots of jams, jellies and syrups. I had been dipping a meat thermometer in the pan but it has a plastic body so I had to be really careful, this one I can leave in the pan to watch for the correct temperature. Jams and jellies etc as well as candy reach very high temperatures, higher than water because of the sugar content. This thermometer goes up to 200/400 degrees, so I know I won’t damage it. The body is metal and there is no mercury, so it is food safe. It is easy to read and has a very handy clip to keep it upright at the side of the pan. I make jams and jellies from spring until late autumn so it will get lots of use. Fantastic price.

No indications for jam-making
This looked nice quality. The packaging looks good. It's by Kitchen Craft with a Brmingham address, designed in Chicago and made in China. It has a 5-year guarantee. It's labelled as a jam thermometer but the markings appeared to pertain to fudge and toffee. There's no mention of the stages of jam making on it. Basically what you get is a bulky thermometer that goes up to 400 degrees fahrenheit, 200 degrees centigrade. I wanted this for making red currant jelly. I am still going to have to look up the gelling point temperature. It's not really saving much time and effort, and it's quite bulky in the drawer. The one I received had a scratched on the top.

Excellent thermometer for jam making and deep frying.
I have used this for both making homemade jam as well as for deep frying and it has worked really, really well. The overall build of the thermometer is excellent. It feels sturdy and durable. The readings were accurate as far as I could tell (all the food I prepared with it came out great so it must have done a good job). The best part about this thermometer is the fact that it has a bit of metal on the back you can clip to your pot or pan which means it will stay in place and you won't accidentally get splashed with hot oil.Does the job well and the price is fair, recommended.

You will want to store on its own due to the exposed bulb
We love our jams and marmalades. You really need a thermometer to get them right .This one is Stainless SteelITs easy to read the markings against the silver of the metalIts 12" long so plenty big enough to go in your preserving panThe bottom has a bit of a foot to it that keeps it away from your pan edgeThe thing I like the very best is the clip.It slides the length of the thermometer and allows clipping onto a pan edge so you dont turn away for 5 mins and come back to find your thermom at the bottom of the boiling jam.The guage starts at 20 degrees on the centigrade side and 60 on the farenheight side so it can be used for measuring your milk temps when making yoghurt too. Also useful for making toffee and other boiled sweets.I like that the handle at top is plastic so wont conduct the heat to your fingers.Makes for a good hanging point too when storing. The bulb is a little exposed at the back so not really something you would keep in a drawer with other utensils.
