2014 album from the North Mississippi Allstars frontman. Luther Dickinson enters a new phase of his storied musical career with his first proper studio album of all original songs. As a member of the North Mississippi Allstars, South Memphis String Band and the Word, Luther has made himself widely known as both a talented musician and as a producer with four Grammy nominations to prove it- three in the contemporary blues category and one in traditional Folk.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE This CD, ...but..., I still Love it!
Luther's new album is so warm and inviting. The songs are whimsical and down to earth, and their stripped-down instrumentation allows Luther to really shine. It's a very intimate look at Luther in a solo setting. I have one small complaint, that keeps this from being a 5-Star album: it's only like 33 minutes long. There are 10 songs that check in mostly in the 2-3 minute range. I love Luther, and I love this CD, but I shelled out a lot of dough for it, and it ended way too quick for me. The CD sounds like it was a labor of love. I'm guessing there were a few more tracks that could have rounded out the album nicely. Anyhow, despite its length, I have no doubt you'll love this album too. It's yet another side of a performer I thought I knew pretty well already, but now know a little better.

A solid effort
I am a big North Mississippi Allstars fan, and I generally enjoy their side projects. I was a bit disappointed with the last NMA release because it had so many different lead singers and styles. This CD made me much happier, as it is much more like what I expected from an official band release. Luther is a spectacular guitar player who gives many nuances to this type of blues. His songwriting here is personal and engaging. I like "Yard Man" the best, because it's very funny and it captures my exact feelings on yard work. ,

Enjoyable
This is a strong set of autobiographical songs from Luther that probably didn't fit NMA. The songs sound like they were written over several years and the subject matter mostly deals with Luther making music. The album is done with an acoustic band and has a relaxed feel but it still rocks in places. Highly recommended.

Good solo effort.
I was definitely pleased with this album. Much more laid back than the NMAS stuff.

Luther's Highest Artistic Achievement In A Career Of Unbelievable Highs
What a brilliant move. He's got Sharde Thomas, the last living Drum and Fife bandleader, playing a simple kit with little to no high hat or cymbals. Add in Amy Lavere, a sympathic bass player and harmony singer. The lyrics are out front, with Luther singing about what he knows: the South and just getting by. Short and sweet at about 35 minutes.

Just a great album!
I bought this after hearing the song Bar Band on the Outlaw Country station on XM satellite radio. I loved it, and all I knew of this Luther feller was that he played with the Black Crowes at Levon's barn. So I bought the vinyl album, and love it. Every song. Just a great feelin record. Hope Luther does more like this.

Disappointed
This album was so full of profanity that it was distracting from the music. Being a huge fan of North Mississippi Allstars and especially Luther Dickinson I was sooo disappointed when I first listened to the CD. In fact I only gave it one listening and put it in my CD stash to sell. Though I usually focus on the music alone the profanity in the lyrics was just too overwhelming. I heard very little of the guitar work that Luther is so capable of in the music. I wish I had not purchased the CD prior to listening to it first.

great great music
this cd makes me feel like I am home, in the sense of a few friends (albeit great musicians) picking around a fire. Great songs highlighted by sparse but foot tapping arrangements - a stripped down version of Luther shines w just him, standup bass, file, and drums.Highly recommended!

Luther Dickinson
