A Great Overview of Menlo Park
Menlo Park is situated on the San Francisco peninsula next door to Stanford University. Once the San Francisco to San Jose railroad was built (1863), it became a popular area for wealthy San Franciscans to build summer homes, some of which were truly grand. During WWI it was the site of the largest army training camps in the West. Following the end of WWII it rapidly grew to its present population of 30,000 but proudly retains much of its earlier village character. This Images of America Menlo Park book does a great job of describing with great illustrations--many culled from the files of the Menlo Park Historical Association--and extensive captions the history and development of this great little city.
