Amazon delivered this right on time, perfect as always. Unfortunately, the mat is not well designed and constructed. Allow me to elaborate. I read the instructions, unrolled the mat, and installed an alkaline battery. Then I placed it on the couch--the very couch that my beloved, perfect angel of a dog likes to scratch when I'm not at home. As I placed it on the couch, I glanced at the dog and smirked at her, the cold glee leaking from my every pore. I practically wanted the dog to get zapped! I pressed the button and noticed that it was stiff--so stiff that I had to pinch the control box between my thumb and forefinger to depress it. The mat powered up and instantly zapped me! I thought I'd been struck by a cobra. This was a real surprise because I was not touching the wire embedded in the mat; the rivets that attach the battery box to the mat are charged and I was touching those. Lesson learned. I could tell the dog was amused. Next, I set the zap to high (she's a big dog) and walked away. Sure enough, the dog soon got a zap. The dog could tell I was amused. Excellent, I thought as I comforted her.A day later, I needed to move the mat, so I held down the stiff red button until the box gave three creaky chirps. The blinking light was off and I was sure the mat was safe to touch. Wrong! ZAP! The cobra strikes again! The damn thing turned itself on! I couldn't believe it, so I had my son turn it off and test it. Same result. The mat turned itself on and nailed him. We actually bought two of these at the same time and both mats turn themselves on after being turned off. We just pull the batteries now, but everyone in the family has now been punished by these mats, and I won't even go near the couch now. I just sit in the dog's bed.

These mats work great. I've got two of them now. We got one to try out on our kitchen stove top. The sun hits it just right and the cats think it's the best place to chill out when we're at work. After a few days the cats don't go near the thing. The second one is on my wife's desk. It is doing a great job of keeping our 4 legged hooligans out of some of the trouble they can get into.The mats seem to be holding up pretty well. I had the controller come unsnapped on one and was able to reattach it. One mat has the thin contact wires pulled up slightly in one spot but is still working. One of the cats must of tried digging at it before they learned their lesson.I ordered them from two different sellers but both mats seem to be the same except for size.The batteries seem to last for months.If you need to keep your pets off a certain area these mats work great, but if you are trying to keep them from getting from point a to b it will not work unless you can totally cover the passage way. Cats and dogs can be quite clever about how to tiptoe around these things.

  I'd love to give more stars to this product, as I was hopeful this was the answer to getting our 22-pound terrier mix to stop escaping under the accordion screen door that we use with the main front door open. The video that was shot by my husband as we were sitting on the front porch says it all. Seems that me saying "Jessie, OFF" does more than her sitting on the mat, set at Medium. Yes, we tried it on ourselves and got a zap. Not sure what happened here, but have already requested a return for this item.

This did not work for us. My goal was to keep the cats from going down the stairs because one of them had been peeing on the bottom step. It seems to sort of work. In that it did shock them -- sometimes. But we discovered that they have to be touching two wires at the same time and they could often walk across without getting shocked. And...they learned to just jump over it. So even though it did somewhat act as a deterrent, they found a way around it. It is currently not being used and I ended up buying a shock collar. Since we didn't know who the culprit was, it took trying it on a couple of different cats, but that seems to have finally solved our problem. This product might work on a couch or other surface that cannot be jumped over, but for our purpose, this was a total waste of money.

This worked well with one dog. He is chubby with some body fat. Did not work for my thin dog. When my thin dog walked on it nothing happened. He was even able to lay on it. He is thin skinned needs sweaters. But did work for the chubby one. He jumped on and had a response. Jumped right off.

Worked well at first but seems to be have gotten less sensitive. My dog has learned that she can walk across it without getting shocked if it is on the floor but she knows not to lie down on it. It only took a couple of times for the cats and they are staying clear of it for now. I noticed in some other reviews that people have said that theirs would come back on by itself, I have had this happen a couple of times. My biggest complaint is that I have noticed that the wires are already coming loose from the plastic mat after only a couple couple of weeks.

Took forever to get this as it came from China. Will definitely pay more attention to where an item is being shipped from next time. It does work well. Kitty got quite a jolt last nite when he tried to sneak onto the table to sleep after the lights were out. There was a big commotion in the kitchen and I knew exactly what had happened.

I was a little bit sceptic about this product but I took the risk and bought since my 2 cats were constantly waeking me up at 3:30 am every day. So I did, first night, worked like a charm!! yeah!! Now I sleep until 7:00 am. Cats spend time at living room instead of my front door.
