Smell like vanilla thru the air vacuumed package.

I had high hopes for these vanilla beans when I received them. In the package, they looked like a good size and appeared to be quite moist. When I took a vanilla bean pod out of the package, it was easy to slice and scrape out the beans. There's a pretty good amount of seeds in each pod and it looks nice and moist.However, I really don't like the way these smell. There's a faint touch of vanilla fragrance, but something else that's overpowering the vanilla. I can't quite put my finger on the smell, but it's almost like some kind of vegetable? It's not a terrible smell, but it's not the pleasant vanilla fragrance I expect from vanilla beans and I worry it would change the fragrance and taste of whatever I use these beans in. I typically use vanilla beans to make my own vanilla extract, which I use in all of my baking. I'm not sure I want to use a handle of vodka on these beans only to realize the extract has an icky smell and taste.Unfortunately, I can't truly recommend these based on the smell. They are a great price for such a big bundle of pods and maybe they'd make a great extract, but I just can't get passed the smell.

These arrived nicely sealed and one could smell the vanilla scent through the packaging. My wife had very hopes for these because of other vanilla beans she's used. She does a lot of baking and making her own vanilla extract.These weren't super dry or soft, but when she split one open, there was a decent amount of beans to scrape. These went nicely into some cookies. However, the next few pods, some had a different smell to them, not rancid or anything like that, but just odd. She decided to make one batch of extract to see how it would turn out. There was not vanilla scent or taste to this bottle so she tossed it. Instead of blindly using the pods, my wife now checks each one individually before using them in her recipes

This pack is a great value for the amount you get. I find that each bean is on the drier side. I’m used to plump vanilla bean pods that are easy to cut in and scrape. These take a bit more work but the beans are fragrant and flavorful.With a pack this large you can get experimental and add a cut and scraped pod to your maple syrup. I prefer to use these vanilla beans in chocolate chip cookies. It makes a big difference in the flavor when you use the beans instead of the extract.

So far, I havent actually used these yet... even though they were vacuum sealed, when they arrived I could smell them through the packaging and envelope, and its a very strong scent that isnt quite like vanilla Ive ever used. I always use 100% vanilla, but these beans have a strange smell to them, Im hesitant to put them in a recipe because I dont want it ruined if theyre no good.
