Better than the show
Extremely well done book that gives you a comprehensive understanding of the context, history, and importance of the air battle over Europe in ww2. It does jump around a bit at times, but overall gives you a really good understanding of how the war unfolded in the air at all levels…from the ball turret gunner, to the leader of the army Air Force and upper command. It covers wayyyy more ground than the show, which only focuses on a few key characters such as John Egan. In the book, they are only the focus of a chapter or two. Every major figure in the air war is covered well. Despite being over 500 pages, the material reads well and it is a page turner.

The Second Greatest Story Ever Told
The Bible being the greatest story ever told. This is the best book I have ever read. It's inspiring to be a better American; story after story, mission after mission, and the prosecution of the entire war... It's jaw dropping. Over and over you'll take the book to someone and say "you've got to hear this". The bravery, sacrifice; you're going to be speechless. Buy two copies because you'll want your son to read it too.

Masters of the air
I thought the book was very interesting and informative... I felt enlightened after reading it... True accounts made me so thankful and proud to be an American... I pray that our country never has to engage in any kind of war..I fear the younger generation won't have any idea of what is required to fight for their country... It takes sacrifice, pride in your country, and the fearlessness that our men and women had to find...thank you for your service in showing the world that the US will fight for freedom...God bless America!

The Best Book I've Read on the Subject
Masters of the Air is the third of three books I plucked from Al Mohler's list of suggested summer reading. It is the story of "America's bomber boys who fought the air war against Nazi Germany." I have long been fascinated with the Second World War and the air war in particular, perhaps because my grandfather was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force during the War and, years later, used to tell me stories of his time in the service. I have fond memories of those times with him. During my years at college I enrolled in every course I could find that dealt with World War II and found that my interest in the subject knew no bounds. Even today I love to read books about this conflict second only to books on theology.Written by Donald L. Miller, this book is "the deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler's doorstep." Written to appeal to those who do not have encyclopedic knowledge of the subject matter, Masters of the Air will appeal to anyone with an interest in World War II. Reading the book is no small commitment as it extends through more than 500 tightly-packed pages. But it is a rewarding read. It focuses not just on events but also on the people who made those events happen. It is a personal look at a very personal war.As I read, I was struck by how foreign it seems to read about a war in which the nation's population was largely supportive. Today no war can begin without cries for an exit strategy, but in the Second World War the nation rallied behind the troops and the leadership and truly believed the war was both just and necessary. They knew that victory would be costly but also knew that the price had to be paid. While no foreign nation seriously threatened American soil, millions of Americans crossed two great oceans to battle for the cause of freedom. These bomber boys had one of the most dangerous jobs in the Armed Forces with mortality rates that almost guaranteed, especially in the early part of the war, that few of them would return.Masters of the Air is the best book I've read dealing with the air war over Germany. I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in the subject matter.

A salute to those bomber boys of WW2
This an absolutely one of the best books I have read. Don Miller does an excellent job telling a compelling stoey and true accounts of the bomber boys of the 100th bomber group and the Eighth Air Force. After reading this book, why would any human want to go to war. It seems though as humans we never let lessons of the past help direct our future paths away from war.

Excellent Read
This is an excellent review of the air war. A minor quibble is the author jumps a bit in timeline and doesn’t always identify which year stated month is in. The book covers the strategic thinking of the time and how the air war evolved. It is very detailed but easy to read. This book is highly recommended to people interested in a detailed review of the air war in Europe.

Important piece of history
Had read a couple of memoirs from crew members before, but this book also includes some very interesting historical backgrounds next to descriptions of what some crews encountered in England and during flights. Can't wait for the new TV series based on this book..
