Man And His Cat 6, A (A Man and His Cat)
N**Y
Yet another pleasant read, with a bit of character development thrown in
I am not a usually a reader of manga, but this one caught my eye, as I have had a retied stray cat living with me for several years, and now have three rescue cats. The basic story is of a middle-aged man (though it is hard to tell age in Japanese comics) buying an aging cat from a pet shop and learning to live with it, and from the cat’s perspective, learning to adapt to life outside a cage. The man is a music teacher who has lost his wife, and the children have apparently long moved away. He has been living a lonely life until he falls for this cat in a pet shop.Due to there currently being no driver to do deliveries for my local library network, the previous two volumes are stuck ‘in transit’.I don’t seem to have missed much, though the cat’s sister has been found, living with the man’s musical rival, and they (the cats) now visit each other. The cat, unfortunately, looks like Garfield, and has the silly smile that cartoon cats have, but real cats don’t; they have a disapproving frown in real life, which is why they always dominate their owners, who react by buying them treats and toys to assuage their cat-imposed guilt about something. The supporting cast begins to develop and expand, as the small cast and their relatives begin to help-out one of the cast members who is a budding songwriter and musician, and several of the musicians end upon stage together.External events move at a glacial pace, as appears to be the standard for vague, fluffy manga, and skipping two volumes hasn’t harmed the flow of the story.Either way, it was still an entertaining read, and I will be reading more volumes.
