Best Adult Fantasy Duology I have Ever Read!
This was a highly anticipated release for me. I LOVED For The Wolf and knew I need this conclusion in my life ASAP! We spend a lot more time with Neve in this one, with bits from Red and Raffe, which made me nervous at first. While I appreciated Neve as a character in the first book, I definitely didn't know how I felt about most of it being from her POV but again, Whitten nailed it. I went from being unsure of a character to really really feeling for them.A lot of what I got out of this series is that people are always changing, whether for the good or for the bad or back again, most of humanity will adapt as they learn and find themselves. People do things for their own reasons, and even though they might seem like the villian in someone else's story, in there's they might just be doing everything they can think of to survive.I loved this duology! Might be the best Adult duology I have ever read.

A lovely conclusion
Perfectly imperfect and magical from start to finish. This was a surprisingly good second book and I enjoyed where all the characters ended up.

Love it!!
This duology was so beautifully written that it was almost lyrical. The story was absolutely captivating. I loved these sisters so much and loved seeing the relationship between them. Seeing how far they would go for each other, the sacrifices they were willing to make, was so sweet and amazing. Beyond that, I also loved the friendships between each of the characters in this book. And I especially loved my boy Eammon. Seeing his relationship with Red grow even further was all I could have ever hoped for. I also really loved the magic system in this story - having two separate, dark vs light magics was so compelling, as were the forms they took. These books were so good! I highly recommend them!

closure
I want to give it five stars but something is missing. I did enjoy it and it was a great story but it didn’t keep me pulled in in quite the same way as the first one. The ending is nicely wrapped up.

Whitten has grown as an author and it shows
In “For the Wolf”, I had complaints about the depth of the characters and the prose, which could lean towards weak. In its other half, “For the Throne”, my complaint is solely that the first half of the book seems to move almost glacially slow. Not slow enough for me to lose interest or for me to become disengaged (simply because that pace was consistent (meaning it wasn’t an uneven pace) and because I knew it wouldn’t last), but enough for me to become somewhat frustrated and to be slightly disappointed. For some reason I expected this book to move faster than the first. I expected the Shadowlands to be, well, a little more chaotic. A little darker. A little more sinister.Thank goodness we had interludes from Red, Raffe, and the others every now and again to break up the bleakness. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them.Thankfully, the issues with prose and characterizations between “For the Wolf” and this book seemed to have been resolved. It shows how Whitten has grown as a writer, because we get more depth and layers to each character and some great passages evoking fantastic imagery. Whitten had a talent at showing and not telling when it came to exposition that was evident from the start, and it continues into this book, which I’m immensely grateful for. Hearing someone drone on and on about exposition in this book would’ve been intolerable. The immense talent at magic systems and world-building continues, also. Juxtaposition and eventual entropy? You’re speaking my love language. Philosophical questions about whether or not one can live without a soul, or even what a soul even is? Slay me. What does it mean to be human or god? Are gods even gods or are gods only gods in their own minds? I could think these thoughts the whole day through and be a happy camper.I enjoyed both books immensely, and I highly recommend you don’t give up on “For the Throne”, even if you have a hard time holding on through the first half.

A gripping and powerful conclusion!
⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 in 5"You think love is so difficult," she murmured. "Such a fraught thing. But sometimes, it can be simple, even when everything around it is not.""No one was wholly one or the other. Goodness was daily choice, endless possibility, a decision at every crossroads.""So much of this will come down to choice, in the end."This was such a fitting conclusion to the dualogy! Hannah Whitten weaves such atmospheric writing and powerful themes into an utterly gripping tale. This book continues the story of Redarys and Nevera as they are caught into prophecy and powers outside themselves - light and dark, life and death, the Wilderwood and the Shadowlands. As Neve is caught in the Shadowlands, she faces the realities of her choices and the cost of power. On opposite worlds she and Red seek the way to bring Neve home, but at what cost? Continuing to explore themes of power and sacrifice, love and choice, Whitten weaves a gripping tale of gods, monsters, and what makes us human. Absolutely gripping! These tales (and author) have definitely become a favorite.

So good. After an anemically written torrent of smut fantasy this was SO WELCOME.
Read it in one sitting which took quite a while since its so well fleshed out and written. I feel like the fantasy genre has been lost to absolute juvenile garbage that gets slapped w best seller bc its p*rn but this, this is an absolute gem.The world is well described and livable - something i was completely engrossed in/consumed with and the characters are intensely lovable and hateable. At one point im crying with one sister feeling her love and pain for the other sister and then vice versa.Amazing to feel actual anguish and not immediately pick a side or to see so clearly the shades of gray. If you want to get lost in a story, read this.Thankfully i found it after the sequel had been released and immediately started reading that even though it was 4am.

okay
I don't think this series is for me. I wasn't super crazy about For The Wolf but it was an intriguing book and the way it ended had me dying to find out what was going to happen with Neve. I will say the story is well developed and the characters are fully flushed out and believable.

Amazing book! 4.5 stars!
4.5 stars! This book was SO good! For the Wolf was great but For the Throne is better! We follow Neve and Solmir as they have to venture through the Shadowlands and find the heart tree. The tension between them was fun to read, especially when they start to trust one another and then eventually care for one another! For the Throne definitely had a lot more going on than For the Wolf and it still managed to provide a great atmosphere and character development. I loved reading about the Shadowlands landscape and the lore.It was amazing having chapters from Red and Raffe's point of views! I just love Red and Eammon so much!A character gets added in to Raffe's chapters which really helped the storyline progress and keep all the characters above ground to stay together and have their own "mission".Whitten is so imaginative in this book. Neve and Solmir meet a few people/things along the way and the descriptions used for these characters were crazy and creative! The gods and kings were so cool! That being said, I dropped half a star because like in For the Wolf some descriptions were overused (Solmir's blue eyes) and events were anticlimactic (marsh land tunnels). This book/series was wrapped up beautifully. I really enjoyed the ending and I'm sad to say goodbye to some of the characters! I highly recommend this series and I hope we get a novella in the future! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Absolutely Brilliant
Visceral and gorgeous and dark. Filled with pulse-pounding horror and slow burn romance. This author is an auto-buy for me!
