Wonderland: Adventures in Decorating

So many beautiful colors, patterns, and textures! Also lots of amazing quick quotes along the way that are super inspiring. Book was larger than expected for the price! BUY THIS! Add colour and life to your home. 💙

I wanted to like this book more than I did as I appreciate Summer Thornton’s designs and her flair for color. The text was silly and repetitive. Too much with the Alice in Wonderland themes. Come on, Ms Thornton is a sharp businesswoman as well as a dreamer and as a reader, I was bored by the incessant reference to the A in W fantasy.The collages that introduced each section did not help my understanding of this designer’s approach. Gratuitous and pretentious. Also, I was disappointed not to find some of my favorite of Ms Thornton’s rooms: her pink entryway, the library with the amethyst lampshades. Perhaps these have been over-circulated already, but their “fearlessness” distinguishes Ms Thornton from other designers. The second part of the book failed to do this and I was overfull with 1940’s type design. If fearlessness is what sets Ms Thornton apart—and I think it does- let her rooms speak for that and avoid trite text that tries to drum that idea into the reader’s head.

Summer Thornton has really made a wonderful contribution to current interior design with this volume. Anyone who's been paying attention to design the last several years is already familiar with her exuberant and gutsy use of color and pattern, so you already know you'll be seeing fantastic, fun work. For me, this book offers something that is a make or break in a design book: She has really taken the time and care to explain, in both section introductions and individual captions, her thought process behind the choices she has made. (Designers thinking of pitching your own book: Take note!) This gives the reader a real opportunity to LEARN something -- which is why I think it's valuable for fellow designers and design students, not just to ooh and ahh over the images but to be able to think, oh this actually works! I could try this! I *understand* what I'm seeing! It's a book that will expand your views about what's possible.It is of course, beautifully shot by some of the most recognizable names in interiors photography and oh IT'S HUGE, which is always wonderful to see (yay print!). As a design enthusiast who buys a LOT of design books (and who has been disappointed by some of the recent titles), I really feel this was a worthwhile purchase that I'll be opening again and again.

I have followed Summer's work for quite some time now and couldn't wait to dig into her book. It did not disappoint! Her original and bold approach to interiors is so inspiring and the book includes so many special spaces. In addition to the beautiful photographs the book also shares a lot about her process and how to add magic to everyday life. I own many interior design books but this one really stands out. A fun side note -under the dust cover the book is the most beautiful shade of purple & looks gorgeous on display!

Okay so the book arrived with some minor imperfections (just due to shipping and it being a paper covered hardback) but this book just fit perfectly with my decor. Absolutely love it!!

I believe this is the best interior design book I’ve ever read, and I’ve ready many ;) i love how Summer gives your the permission to decorate fearlessly with no apologies. Her interiors are magical and made my heart sing and mind swim with ideas! I couldn’t put it down. If you love off the beat, fun, cheeky design you may love this book too!

This is an absolutely gorgeous coffee table book featuring the interiors of a designer who know how to work with color, pattern, and texture. It was such a refreshing change from the overdone and forgettable modern farmhouse stuff that seems to always be showcased these days. This book has flair and personality in all of the interiors. The libraries were my absolute favorite followed closely by the author’s trellised conservatory. This is a stunning book which has earned its spot in my architecture and interior design library.

I own probably 75 amazing interior design coffee table books and this one is one of my favorites! Summer Thornton is a design genius and her authenticity will inspire you like no other. There should be no rules to design and her WONDERLAND is proof of it! But this book now, buy it for you mama and your mama’ mama!

The book is incredible! Summer’s gift to layer detail after detail and still have each room feel so intentional is inspiring. As a new decorator, I could this as a textbook I’ll come back to over and over! A Beautiful book for anyone who appreciates wonderful design and decoration! X
