Beautifully Made for You or a Classy Gift
Yes, you can get a waiter's corkscrew for $5. Or $10. This one is outrageously expensive! However, with this you get traditional quality French manufacturing. It's precision made of the finest, hardest stainless steel, and everything just works so well. Open one wine bottle with a $10 waiter's corkscrew and another one with this one. You'll be impressed with the difference, and you'll stop using the $10 corkscrew.I like it so much that I've stopped using my lever-action Screwpull that I paid $150 for a long time ago. Yes, this takes longer, but it's a delight to use something that works so well, and, in fact, it doesn't take all that long to take out a cork. For those older bottles, say 20 years or older, where the cork may be very soft, a good strategy is to use an Ah-So opener to free the cork and pull it out about 1/4 ". Then use this corkscrew to remove it the rest of the way. And, by the way, you'll find that there are cheap Ah-So openers and expensive ones. The expensive ones work much better.

Amazing Quality
The attention to detail is what makes this special. From the highly polished wood, to the serrated foil cutter, to the magnets that hold the wood box together, to the overall hefty feel, this is by far, the best wine bottle opener I have ever used. Yes, it is expensive, but if you value quality you may be as pleased as I am. Craftsmanship.

Beautiful but stiff
Beautiful tool. However, corkscrew was very stiff even after oiling and waiting a day. Required a hazardous amount of force to open. I'm returning it but will take my chances and buy another, hoping it was a one-off problem with the one I got. I note that some others also note a stiff action on some of the Laguiole En Aubrac openers.
