This is my favorite VB book.
This author's descriptions are clear, thorough, and complete. If you want to understand Visual Basic or programming concepts in any language this is the right book. Any one of the sections from the first chapters on to object oriented programming, the .NET Framework, or programming with databases (including LINQ and the Entity Framework) are worth the price of the book. The examples in this book contain an exceptional display of logic, best practices, and Visual Basic syntax.Even though Visual Basic is up to 2017, the concepts and code in this book are still applicable. There are few changes in the IDE that are not covered in this book but even those are easy to apply once you've read this author's explanations and reviewed his code. This author provides the best code example I've seen to date for a math calculator. Least amount of code and best use of resources. This is my favorite VB book. I would love to see this author publish a new version of this book.

Superb Manual & Desktop Reference
This was exactly what I needed to get up and running quickly to make and modify many user applications in VB2010. I had several legacy apps from VB6 that I never converted to VB2005 because I didn't want a lot of hassles and debugging downtime. This book helped me navigate to the essential considerations and modification and upgrade was a breeze. The book is broken up nicely depending on if one is building Windows, Web, or data driven apps. This greatly streamlines finding the answers to questions and provides many solutions. The interface for Visual Studio is so much different but this book gets one to the heart of the VB world. Kudos to the author for getting this one just right, as this is not one that will become another dust collector on the bookshelf. I literally keep it at arms length and refer to it regularly.

Mastering Visual Basic 2010
I enjoyed reading this book (still haven't finished it). Its language style is clear, logical and easy to understand. As most books in the Mastering series, it is also exhaustive in it's handling of the topic. Having read the book Mastering Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 - or at least most of it - one would be well on the way to being a confident VB 2010 programmer. After this, the book would serve as an excellent reference for your bookshelf. I recommend this book to both beginner and accomplished VB hobby and professional programmers.

Great Resource
Excellent coverage of .net. It was nice that the author's first 3 chapters are aimed at those with no .net experience; he states you can skip ahead if you are already familiar.Part 2 (Chapters 4-7) covers development, Part3 (8-10) custom classes and controls, Part4 (11-14) covers the .net framework, Parts 5 & 6 (15-21) data-driven programming and web.Good coverage of LINQ also.I am still working through the book but have learned a lot on the past month. would recommend based on current experience.

Kindle Edition Sux
The book seems to be well written and the information I've found has been great. The problem is that I purchased the Kindle edition, and there is no Table of Contents or Index. I have more than 1000 pages that I can flip through, but there is no way to find information about a specific topic. I feel like I have a great reference book that I cannot refer to since there is no over-arching organization available. Don't buy the Kindle version unless you enjoy flipping through endless pages of technical material trying to find that one line of information you need.

ComputerLanguageProgrammingTextbook-VB2010
The product (VB10 text) I needed and wanted (1) was immediately available, (2) at a cost substantially lower than local retail stores, (3) using a payment process (credit card) with a trusted vender which was fast and convenient; (4) the product arrived in new condition well within acceptable time for such a transaction, and (5) a review of the textbook during the first week revealed contents which meet my needs.

unacceptable
I examined the sample for this title offered through amazon prior to purchase. The sample included a table of contents. Upon downloading the title I was extremely disappointed to discover that the table of contents is not included with the kindle edition. This is completely unacceptable for material of this nature. What use is a book of this nature when It cannot be used to reference key programming concepts?

Clear and concise
The introduction suggests that this is a book for intermediate to advanced users. I had not used VB since VB6, so I needed a reference work that I could dip into. The book is clear and concise. It appears to cover a very wide range of issues and it gets quickly into the details without any superfluous padding. Should I have given it a fifth star? Probably.

Excellent book
Excellent book. I have used visual basic 4 for decades, and unfortunately am now having to upgrade. This book appears to be just what I need to explain the diferences and generally bring me more up to date.

Excellent book for learning the Visual Basic but it excludes Steps to create tables in SQL server.
The book mmets expectations of learning Visual basic in .NET framework but it excludes steps to create databases and tables in SQL Server. This is important step, that is deliberately excluded, an should have been included in order to take full advantage of learning VB with database.
