An Oldie but a goodie!
When I began reading the other reviews on this model, I thought this was going to be a horrible kit. When it came the next day though, it was alright. The box was a bit small and the propeller was bent but, overall, the kit was a pretty easy kit. I’m new to scale modeling but I have done a few kits before. After I completed the model, I decided to dig up more information about the model. While looking, I found the original tool date. The date this was tooled was around 1964! This kit has been given newer decals and new boxes ever since. I am aware that this is a little challenging, but if you were to look into it’s history, it might just get a little cooler.

Old Airfix molding
This is my 3rd airfix Corsair. Doesn’t come with “gear up” parts like so many other airfix kits but that’s ok. Pretty easy, not overly detailed kit but good for a quick build. Making each of them in different schemes/markings. US Navy, Fleet Air Arm versions.

Not recommended for beginners.
This kit is from a very old Airfix mold dating back to the 1960's. Being a vintage kit, it features raised panel lines and rivets galore. There is no cockpit, just a seat and pilot figure. The parts have quite a bit of flash (excess plastic) that must be trimmed. Parts fit is poor and the painting instructions are vague. On the plus side, there are only 35 parts and assembly is straight forward. You'll need a hobby knife to trim parts, sand paper to clean up the edges, and clothes pegs, rubber bands, or tape to hold the parts together while the glue dries. In addition to the small pointed brush included with the set, I would also add a medium sized flat brush to paint the larger parts. In conclusion, I would not choose this set if you are just starting out or returning to the hobby as an older adult. The Spitfire or BF 109 starter sets are better choices.

Not A Display Piece
I knew as soon as I opened the box that this was a very cheaply made model. I love AirFix and have built nearly 20 of their 1/72 scale models in the last 2 years, but this model was a huge disappointment. The plastic was VERY thin and had several spill over spots. There were raised rivets and panels which I appreciate but they will ultimately just be sanded off when trying to remove/cover the poorly aligned seams. Also, the seat has 4 “pegs” that you align in the holes provided. The image in the instructions doesnt show these pegs so I assumed they were spill over plastic and started sanding them off (Shown in the image). There is also no cockpit instrument panel at all. Just a hole. This will be the first AirFix model I don’t finish. This is definitely a model for kids or a beginner looking to spend an hour throwing something that looks like a F4U Corsair together. Not a display piece.

Weak/flimsy parts, poor packaging.
The cockpit canopy part was missing, weak/flimsy propeller part, poor packing (bigger box needed - probably why the propeller part was slightly damaged. In fact, ALL of the Airfix models so far are poorly designed and packaged.

Airfix’s F4U-1D Corsair 1/72nd scale. Not the best kit I can suggest the revell f4u-5 corsair
This kit lacks a lot of cockpit detail The Fit Is also not that great .A lot of putty is needed. I give this kit 3 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
