Simple and direct and highly effective.
The advice is broken up into topic sections which is very helpful, and then within those sections are simple, direct, one page intorductions to a problem/solution followed by one page of suggested tips. I LOVE this format and find it so very useful; more so than reading through 400 pages of bla, bla, bla and psycho-babble to get to that nugget of info that will help get to the core of the problem one is facing that day. Some of the solutions are pretty obvious and simple, some are new and enlightening. I think that any reader will be reminded of the simple tools we may have forgotten, or will discover new ideas and ways of approaching our children that will benefit all.

This is worth your time and $'s !!
I've bought a lot of "raise your child to be" books, but this one is one that I continue to refer back to. It is very insightful and VERY well layed out which makes it a pleasure to read (half the battle). This book comes into play when your son turns around 18 mos. old, but you'll use it until he is probably in his teens. I pick it up often and read through areas that are important to me at that time and feel like the tips they give you to communicate really do work.I've definitely gotten my money out of this book and I'd recommend this highly.

Definitely recommend
This is a really good reminder of how to be a positive influence on our boys. Having grown up in a family of all girls, I often feel confused as to how to deal with the energy of boys. But I've learned to love and appreciate it and this book can really provide insight into how they feel and how to handle different situations.

Boys need all the help they can get in this day and age.
Informative, necessary reading for those dealing with boys. They need some attention and help as it is no longer a man's world. Boys need all the help they can get. Women are overtaking men everywhere it counts - more in and graduating from university, etc. 'It's a woman's world, in so many ways now.

Disappointed Parent
I bought this book hoping I would discover some techniques that would help me bring my son out of his shell. What I found was a book of over generalizations about men as a whole. I felt the book was directed at single mothers from otter space who had no understanding of men or boys what so ever! The author writes clearly and it is well laid out; however the content is less than basic and leaves much to be desired!

Brilliant book, all parents of boys should read this!
I thought this book was brilliant and very timely to read as my 12 year old son's behaviour is very challenging. It gave me lots of insights as well as reminding me of positive parenting that I had forgotten or let slip as we had spiralled into such negativity. I was able to use lots of the suggestions in the book to bring about a more positive relationship and have seen improvements. I have also been reminded that no child is perfect, and nor are we as adults, so instead of punishment all the time, I have tried to use various ways of offering support and guidance so that he can learn from his mistakes and grow. Things are still difficult at home but I feel I am more equipped to deal with issues now.

Awful
Awful, truly awful. I closed it after about two minutes and did something I have never, ever done before: threw it in the bin. I found some of the 'real life' stories that introduced the tips too upsetting for words here. I would recommend not buying this. Have I said how awful it was?!
