Good poncho choice
Did a 36 mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail with 1 full day in the rain. At 6’2” with a 31lb/65l pack the poncho fit over myself and pack really well. I ended up only snapping the bottom most snaps as I needed more ventilation. At the end of the day you are going to be wet from the rain or from sweating your butt off in a fully snapped poncho. This is more about keeping your pack dry AND providing you a versatile piece of gear (tarp, rainfly, etc). I would recommend taking off the strings/straps that come with this though. They are a briar and mud magnet. By the end of the day’s hike they either stretched out from the wet to the point where I stepped on them, wrapped around my trekking poles, or otherwise got in the way. Paracord would probably be a better bet and not always attached.Like you I rely on reviews. Please consider marking helpful if you found it useful.

Not Military Grade!
This poncho is good for emergency purposes and then discarded after use. This poncho is not even close to military grade. I am not sure if it is 100% waterproof, the seams are sealed with a very thin plastic material that is starting to peel off. The grommets are very thin, the cords are not 550 paracord, they are flimsy polyester. The sales pitch on this product is very well done, it fooled me. Not worth $30.00. It is very hard to get a military surplus poncho now days. I am a Veteran and I know military grade ponchos. Very disappointed, the other brands are just as bad if not worse, so buyer be aware.

Lighter than Mil-Spec, tough enough for bivvy use.
In the way back, I was issued the HD OD poncho in the Army... indestructible! Then the Medium duty M81 camo poncho; still pretty darn durable! This poncho is even lighter then the M81, yet has sufficient overall design and thickness for medium duty field use, and works well with a poncho liner as a bivvy, especially if you have something proving additional protection from the ground (pad, tarp, or tent). This is a perfect solution for my in-truck "Get Home" pack, as I am weight sensative, protect my gear, and don't plan on needing this past three hard-use days. The included attached short tie-off lines are just cotton; I'd suggest removing them and then just use 550 as needed, if needed. Stay Prepared Fam! 🇺🇸

Even got the smell right.
I give it 3 stars because 2 were not enough and 4 would have been to many. The little chi com bastards did an ok job. I think the large grommets are a bit excessive. However they did go one step further to the authentic U.S. Government issue experience and gave them the uniquely USGI wet weather gear ass smell. If you are a veteran, upon opening the package and having your olfactory senses hit with the waft of a special blend of waterproofing and insect repellent chemical treatments you will find yourself propelled back to the good old days of youth, vitality and an intact muscular skeletal system that doesn't snap and pop when you stand up.
