(EDITED TO ADD: I definitely overdid it. In the following review I mention the massager times out at half an hour and I kept restarting it. I must have done so six times--I sat with it for about 3 hours after a bad shift and I could barely move the next day--it REALLY gets deep, even though I wasn't leaning back onto it very hard. It left big red marks all over my back that my husband said looked like I'd been beat up. SO...be aware that you have to start slowly and build up to this. And do NOT lean back on it even medium force!)Well, I've had this thing for less than 12 hours and have to write a review. I received it while I was at work, so when I came home it had arrived. After 13 hours on my feet, I thought "why wait?"I opened the package and was surprised to see the large blue box (the suitcase or briefcase they chose to showcase in all the images--I mean, it's cardboard. Most of us will probably throw that out, right?I had been looking for something to use in my car during my lunch half hour break, because by the time my shift is over I'm in so much pain that by the time I commute home I can barely walk. Nights for me are super painful as I lay in bed and ache in every joint, and along my whole spine. (I work in critical care, and it's fast paced and stressful)I was considering a rechargeable one, but then I saw this one with a 12 volt adaptor (cigarette lighter) and thought, for the price (cyber Monday 23.99 deal) It was worth the gamble.I've had cervical spine issues (herniated a disk moving a patient) eventually with traction and physical therapy it got better but it doesn't take much for it to re-aggravate, leading to migrants and vertigo...and piriformis issues (pulled a muscle decades ago when I worked in ICU and had to move patients by myself, threw my lower back out twice and had to go to physical therapy.)I work one day a week and weekends, because physically, I just can't anymore--for every day on my feet abusing my body it takes me two days to recover and a lot of pain--I don't like to take meds, so I don't even take over the counter stuff, and I have a tens unit that helps but it's masking the pain, not treating the problem (still, it's better than taking pills)I slipped this thing over my shoulders and tried it, and realized I hadn't gotten the rechargeable one, so I plugged it in and it started moving--IMMMEDIATELY I felt goose pimples run down my right leg and couldn't control the giggles (I'm ticklish) but after a minute or two I was in absolute BLISS!I used it for maybe a half hour, with my eyes rolling back into my head and my husband asking me if I was alright and laughing at my catatonic state. I told him I might ask him for a divorce so I could marry this thing.I've never used Shiatsu massage units before, but I did have a VERY good physical therapist that could locate and find little knots along my spine and press into them until they released. This allowed the muscles around my cervical spine to be loosened up so I could perform my physical therapy and strengthen those muscles supporting my neck! THIS THING IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS THAT PHYSICAL THERAPIST!Today, the day after my shift, a day I usually am hobbled and can barely walk, spend most of the day in a hot bath, followed by a heating pad and trying to stretch, I'm up and about! I was able to do laundry and take the dogs out several times, and it's thanks to this thing!I took away half a star for the clunking I occasionally feel, as it seems very strong and well-built but that clunking feels like something is out of alignment. It doesn't do it all the time, but maybe for about 5 minutes In every 30 minute cycle.This morning I thought "I wish it warmed up MORE" because I couldn't feel any heat coming from the heating mechanism but I sat on the couch and moved this thing to my lumbar area and used it for half an hour, then up my thoracic spine and used it for half an hour--after several cycles of turning it back on for more pain relief, it started warming up well (still, I wish it would give that level of warming on the first cycle because I'm not sure how often I'll be able to use it for 3-4 hours without stopping.)The only other thing I could say about it is that it feels a bit cheap in materials. I understand it's supposed to be faux leather but it's clearly not, it feels like upholstery vinyl and though it's well-constructed and very carefully detailed, something about the quality of the materials puts me off a bit. Maybe it's so that it can be wiped down and shared, but I'd have preferred something with a nicer hand (fabric feel.)I may come back and upgrade my stars--it's definitely in the 4-5 range. Super strong motor, seems like it will last for a long while, and it's worth the money spent for sure!I will probably look into buying another that is rechargeable and pillow form in the hopes of bringing it to work on the off hand chance I can use it while charting at the end of my shift--how nice that would be!You can't go wrong for the price! Get one, heck--get two!

Great for neck, shoulders & head pain. Deep tissue massage. I recommend this item.

Bought this as a birthday gift for myself, and I am so happy that I did! The rotation of the gears genuinely feel like a massage technique, and I really like how easy it is to adjust it for different body parts. Minus 1 star for how short the outlet cord is. Overall I’m satisfied, and would definitely recommend it to a friend!

Like someone else said…closest thing to a pair of hands. My teenagers use this too. My mom bought one too after trying mine. I get tension headaches and this helps big time. I love that there’s a car charger to use on the go.

If I could change just one thing, I'd move the controls to a handheld device or at least to the bottom of the sleeve. Right now, it's high up on the lefthand side and once both arms are in the sleeves it's really hard to reach. Taking the right arm out messes up the position of the massager.

Great price for this little powerhouse! It is bulkier than I expected but also constructed better than anticipated. Great quality! The heat is not as hot as I would like, but it is more than sufficient. It is very versatile and can be used on more than just the neck. I should have bought 2 because I know we will fight over who gets to use this after workouts, working, or other physical activities! Definitely recommend!
