One role is a conventional artillery equipment to replace existing mortars and howitzers in the former Soviet Army's air assault divisions and the second role could be as a direct fire anti-tank weapon system firing HEAT projectiles. Developed by Yuri Kalachnikov design bureau in Perm early 80-th and first seen in public in May 1985. More than 1000 pieces manufactured in XX century.
