First thing I noticed was that who ever assembled the cannon either didn't know how they work or just didn't care that much. I had to disassemble it and put the cannon on the carriage the right way with fuse hole on top. Now for function it will make quite a bit of a racket if loaded correctly, there is no real recoil. Sounds about like a firecracker. It fires a steel bb which works best if you pack it in the cannon with a tiny bit of tissue around it so it fits nice and tight. You need compression to fire it correctly. I was using FFF black powder. I suspect a priming powder might do better but I didn't have any of it. Cleaning such a small bore is tricky. I had to figure out how to get the tip of a cotton swab out of the powder chamber when it tore off the cotton swab. So I had to get out a drill and hope to snag the alcohol soaked cotton. I was successful with no damage to the cannon. It only elevates to about 45 degrees so it can be a little tricky to load plus the bore is so small to begin with. It's easy to lock in position to fire. No tools needed. Just fuse, pack a few grains of black powder in it and a wrapped bb and you are golden! Just be sure everything is packed in nice and tight. It takes just a pinch of powder. Less is more. Maybe 1-2 grains of black powder is all it takes. (For those that do not know this is a measure of volume in black powder measuring.) If you pack the bore almost full so the bb is just at the end of the muzzle you will have an accuracy problem if you are trying to shoot something. Get the bb in there so it is fairly deep so it needs to travel in the cannon when it fires and it will fly fairly straight. I have no way to really tell but 50 feet sounds about right for a properly packed bb to fly.

not just any idiot can fire it (read the other comments). If you are not familiar with things like this then watch a Utube video or something.I was not able to find fuse small enough for it on amazon (3 mm) and had to order it from another site. also you must get black powder that is ground up very fine. I test fired it with coarse powder and it shot but not with enough velocity to pierce a piece of paper.It must be cleaned often a, q tip fits well and a toothpick is a good size for the fuse hole.Heavy and well made. Fun toy.

Purchased this product few weeks back. My first impression is good. Then, I ordered two more as a gift for my friend. I have recognized that this is scrap compared to another supplier I purchased online. The initial good-looking surface disappears after several uses. You should not ever purchase this gadget on Amazon.
