ASICS Men's Gel-Kayano 28 Running Shoes

I am buying these Gel-Kayano's about 10 years after the last one. I am not disappointed. During my marathon running years I ran 23 marathons, and twenty 50km runs (31 miles), in these shoes and trained for more than 10,000 miles of running. After trying several brands, I settled on these, luckily fairly early in my running days. For amateurs, such as myself, I believe this is the best running shoe ever made. I tried at least a half dozen other brands and types, most of them, I did not use for more than a couple of hundred miles, because they caused "this or that" foot problems. I have good legs and feet for running; no pronation, arch, or asymmetry issues, which can cause some shoes to not work for you. I don't run anymore, and haven't run for 10 years, because of back problems and have been doing endurance bicycling. I have now started walking for fitness, especially during rainy days when biking is not fun. To get myself going I purchased these Kayanos and they are just as good as the last set. I also liked Amazon's "try before you buy" deal, because without that, I would not risk getting shoes that may not fit or have other problems. Since I am familiar with these shoes, I got the right size the first time. You do need to size up one size on these, at least in my experience.As to their performance in my experience, I still have a lot of my used-up shoes, which I have been using for everyday walking, shopping etc. I used to use them for 450-500 miles of running, which is on the high side, but I was not a very fast runner, and not capable of winning (I kept track of all running data in a spreadsheet including shoe mileages). I also ran one rain-soaked trail ultra-marathon in these, but did not finish (DNF!). I didn't do much trail running, and these shoes are not good for it. They got soaked and heavy and contributed to the quitting. A lot of elite runners didn't like these because they are heavier and can be slower than some shoes might be. Durability is not a concern for these runners. Their best shoe would be a light one that lasts them a hundred miles (time to break-in before the marathon, and one marathon). So, there you have it. I hope that your experience will be as good as mine. If not, you can always buy another brand next time. Running shoes don't last long, especially if you run in them.

I haven’t been running even 5k’s lately, so I won’t claim these are good for serious running, but they are really comfortable, offer good support, look reasonably good for a day endeavor, work really well to play racquetball… and cost me about $60. I will buy these shoes again when it’s time to replace them if I find them anywhere close to that price again.

I’ve been wearing ASICS Kayano shoes for walking and working out for nearly 20 years. I used to distance run, but now just walk and weight lift. Each pair provides good stability and comfort.It is a really good idea to be evaluated first in a running store to find a shoe type that matches your stride - if you pronate, supinate, have high/low/perfect arches, etc…that should steer you to your shoe type. I was dialed in to the Kayano shoe in the early 2000’s.

Update: Bought my 3rd pair. To be fair, running shoes are supposed to be replaced after a while. I will track the number of miles I get out of this pair and update this review. Overall, however, this wide, light, and well cushioned shoe is a no-brainer to purchase. For a third time.These would actually be 5 star shoes because they are so comfortable for long distance running. I purchased them a second time after replacing the first pair. However, the lifespan is shorter than most.

I love these shoes as they help stabilize all my steps leading to less stress on my joints and foot. Obviously not for weight lifting as they have the cushion on them which breaks force transfer into the ground, but great for every day walking/running. These are the 4rd pair I've gotten in the Gel Kayano line.

I am a long time user of the ASICS Gel Kayano series running shoes, which are getting better year after year. I like to pick up the prior year's model at the reduced prices offered for the prior year models.

Awesome product if you have high arches. Has very comfortable fit with support at toes for a solid push off. In terms of arch aupport, these are almost as comfortable as my Brooks Glycerin.

I am 66 and pretty active. I developed metatarsalgia (ball of foot pain). Researched causes and cures on YouTube. Discovered I needed orthodics for my slippers (source of metatarsalgia) as well as better footware. Purchased these ASICS after loads of research. I can't say enough about how great these shoes are. The metatarsalgia disappeared after about two weeks of slipper orthodics, stretching, and wearing the ASICS around the house and outside. I am back to my regular routine of 1-2 mi walks and 1-2 hrs dance. There's enough room in the toe box to stretch my toes (unlike some of the other reviews I read). I am a regular size 10 C.
