Okay for larger pots but not for pots smaller than 5".
I just transplanted several orchids from 4" into 5" pots (transparent, slotted orchid insert pots that fit into cache pots). It was okay for this although an occasional chunk was too big and had to be set aside. It would certainly work quite well for pots larger than 5" but I believe that bark with smaller chunks than this would work best for pots smaller than 5".

Will buy again

Sun Bulb 5019 Better-Gro Orchid Bark, 8 Quarts
Ordered this as a replacement for a previously bought new bag of Orchid Bark (Miracle Grow Brand from the local Home Depot). When I had opened the Miracle Grow bag a swarm of small flying insects flew out so I promptly returned the bag to my local Home Depot for a refund. The Sun Bulb product was fine- no small flying insects were found in the bag. Good product!

Happy Orchids!
I tried the Miracle Grow for Orchids and it KILLED one of my plants before I realized what was going on. I changed to the Sun Bulb and my plants are thriving. They didn't even get the usual "move shock" when I put them in their new pots. This mix is the super chunky stuff, so you can mix it with a slightly finer blend for the perfect orchid environment. I mixed it with a finer mix and like I said, my orchids are thriving in their new pots.

Good stuff, but three bags was way too much!
I repotted five orchids with this mix a few weeks ago. The bark is inexpensive, but you have to get it as a tag on, so you can't order it by itself. I had never repotted my orchids before, so I had to guess about how much I needed. I WAY overbought. One bag was about twice as much as I needed for my five orchids, which I moved from 6" pots to 8' pots. But the orchids are doing beautifully -- already beginning to bloom again!

Very small pieces.
I've bought this kind at Lowes and at their store the pieces of wood were bigger and not as messy. This bag from amazon wasnt that great. It was more of a mess and the pieces were way too small.

the orchid seems to love it too
I bought this to replant my Phalaenopsis orchid (the common grocery-store variety). I don't claim to know much about caring for orchids; I just read up on a few basics online about trimming away dead roots, etc. (and there's a bit of instruction on the bag, too). The plant is doing well even with my limited knowledge, and even began growing two new leaves within a few weeks of the repotting. Plus there's enough left over for the next replanting.
