A good murder mystery
A fabulous start to a new series. A good storyline and a creative mix of characters. The atrocities of the past come back to haunt a small town Scotland, this is made clear early on in the book. Dr Anna Scavolini has found herself deep in the heart of a recent investigation which may put her life at risk but her curiosity and involvement in the case holds no bounds. A little predictable in some places but there are plenty of red herrings to throw you off the scent. A suspenseful build up towards the end. Loved the dialect and writing style. An enjoyable and satisfying read.

Excellent Story
For the first book in a series this was an excellent story. Well crafted dealing with events ten years on and this affects on the characters in the present. Also lots of diverse and interesting characters.Looking forward to reading more in the series.

When No means No
A gritty, emotional and believable tale of City life for the haves and the have nots. The shame and embarrassment of youthful exuberance and peer pressure is brought into sharp focus in this disturbing, at times humorous, but serious story of Glasgow society. All is not always as it seems with educated and entitled individuals playing with the emotional baggage and actual injury carried off as 'a bit of fun'. The return after ten years of forced separation from her city brings Dr Anna Scavolini into direct conflict with a number of legal people as well as friends, leading eventually to a very challenging dilemma. Well worth a read.

A Glasgow book.
I just wanted a book set in Glasgow and got an excellent page Turner. Read fairly quickly for me, and stayed up late to finish it. I've downloaded the next books to carry on.

Not much of a mystery
Incoherent and jumping to conclusions. Full of platitudes and the story unwinding in an absolutely predictable way. The main character, Dr Anna Scavolini barely believable.

tough subject dealt with gravitas-
I was really in a quandary -going between 4-* or 5-I finally resolved my dilemma by asserting that as a first attempt author -revising and revising an original manuscript -this author has done a wonderful job and created a fascinating story/study-from various perspectives on the consequences/ points of divergent viewpoints -ie. victim-authorities -participants-enablers- psychologists -friends-family -of abusers and violence against women. I did have some minor confusion as to Jenny's Fathers behaviour-Originally it wasn't clear to me -if his behaviour was linked to his profession-position in the community - his trying to protect her from public scrutiny-or a misogynistic generational attitude. That is my personal digression -from the story-which reads and flows extremely well. The cast of characters are an interesting lot -some you will like -others not so much -I would have appreciated a little more background on Anna's family of origin-though perhaps for future consideration. As a male writer -I have to say the author has dealt with a very feminist subject -without holding back. The truth of the stats on justice being served by the courts -3% -if that-is appalling-This story raises some moral issues that likely will never be resolved to everyone's satisfaction -I give accolades to this writer -for tackling the subject -and doing a credible job -through red headed Zoe -and her no holds barred attitude and Anna struggling with her own story and repressed feelings-but applying a very measured analytic academic mindset -Well done !!!!!!

A Glasgow I'm unfamiliar with
Was an interesting story, but left one somewhat dangling, where you have to buy the following books. I think a bit farfetched inasmuch a young women running around investigating murders and getting herself in all kinds of hot water.

Excellent book
First book by this author but won't be the last. An amazing read. Anna is a criminology lecturer in Rome, back in Glasgow for childhood friend, Zoe's birthday. She gets involved in the hunt for a serial killer. This book moved me to tears. Great characters, although some of them I didn't like but they all played their part well.

A good crime story
The story and the plot was good and very origin. To get to the end of the story one had to continue reading to find out who was doing the killing. I must admit I like how Victor did them in. Beautiful poetics justice. Well done. What I did not like about Ann character was when she was upset how she place herself on Victor it was unfounded. All in all good reading.
