Safari Ltd. Microraptor Realistic Hand Painted Toy Figurine Model Quality Construction from Phthalate, Lead and BPA Free Materials for Ages 3 and Up

Okay, first off, it is MUCH bigger than I thought it would be. Pleasant surprise when I opened the package and it was about the size of a Mattel Velociraptor. Bonus star for that, but the paint application really tears it down.The design seems to be based off of a modern crow, raven, or other of the Corvidae, with the jet black plumage having a matte finish. Unfortunately, Safari's classic sloppy paint job really drags this figure down. The beautiful detailing of the sculpt is definitely destroyed in some primary areas (face, claws) by the lack of attention to detail of the paint application. The entire figure is jet black, save for a few key areas. Must be hard to ruin, right? Well, unfortunately, Safari did downgrade this figure's potential significantly when they decided to only use a couple different paints for the figure. The black plumage is gorgeous, and I am glad this was selected as a decision, to allow the sculpt to really shine, but the paint on the face and claws overall make the figure seem derpy.Overall, I recommend it, as from far away it seems striking, especially since many figures don't go the bold single-color route. But if you look close up, just admire the wings and plumage. Otherwise you may get upset at the simplistic and sloppy colors of the face.

As usual Safari Ltd. has delivered an exceptional product. This Microraptor is so super detailed & painted so well I almost want to keep it on the shelf! My son absolutely loves it, definitely one of his favorite dino' s from this Christmas. Highly recommend to anyone with a dino crazy child!

My daughter loves it! It fits in great with all of her other dinosaur toys. Also, the detail is very nice for the price and feels list it will stand up to playtime.
