Homeward: The Ship Series, Book 3

Definitely 'beamed' up into a different universe by Jerry's Ship Series.
Having now read the three first books in quick succession I am able to say that it is a 'cracking read; has enough humour and human interest as well as good Sci Fi action to keep you page turning and wanting more. I understand the author's motivation in turning to writing himself because of the lack of original material out there just now. Raised on the 'Dune' series and fattened on the work of Iain Banks I prefer authors who create whole universes, intense well structured plots within plots etc. At first I wasn't sure about the main character here, reminded me a little of 'Ender's game', and the premise a little similar to Galactica, but my worries were soon dismissed and I became truly hooked! The three books improve and become more than a teenage coming of age, with a variety of characters that prove more than just simple stereotypes - though there is a touch of it especially with the marines. The alien species ( no spoiler alert) is a bit disappointing so far, reminding me of a set of movies which I will not mention. I am hoping that book four achieves what I have visualised from events so far and that they become more than just obvious stock creatures we have encountered before. If you like your Sci Fi to have big ships, fast small ships, different planets, intrigue and action then these three books are for you.

Great, classic sci-fi
Just finished the Homeward book and I liked the series so far. The story is maybe a little "simple" (it is noticeable that it is written for a Young Adult audience). But the story creates a whole world of interesting people (and aliens) and it was nice to read a set of "classic" sci-fi. Through the three books so far, there is interesting development of characters and exciting plots, so I'm definitely waiting for the next ones!

Enjoyable sci-fi yarn.
I have enjoyed the three books in the Ship series. It's a good, fast paced story. I'm a big sci-if fan and this reminded me in some ways of Heinlein. I'm a bit of a pedant though and had some slight niggles with the grammar. There are lots of Star Trek style split infinitives and a few too many americanisms in the narrative (they obviously don't bother me in the dialogue). These are not major crimes however so it shouldn't put you off (I'm just weird like that)! I'm in my late forties. I understand from the author's notes that this series is aimed at teenagers. As such it works really well but there is much to enjoy for the older reader as well.

Short
These are good little books - but seem to be following the current trend for kindle books of very short books - made into a series ....... seemingly for no reason other than to milk multiple small £3 payments rather than try to market a book of decent size at a higher price !

This series has really gripped me
This series has really gripped me. The style is easy and flowing and unlike many of the 'Military in Space' scifi books (which I also read) this is not full of endless battles. there is an intriguing theme (& possible love interest) based on sound scifi tech. There may a couple of things that stretch the imagination but after all so does the whole genre. I like the character development too. Looking forward to parts 3 & 4.

Really goof read, the plot flys along and the characters interactions and development continues to be brilliant as we learn more about the universe outside the ship. Again the length is the only thing that lets this series down. Don't assume one of these books is going to be sufficient to see you through an entire airport departure/arrival/flight stop. Of course you will want to read them back to back anyway so thats not a huge problem

Awesome read again... I can't wait for book 4.
Again Jerry keeps you hooked with the suspense of the plot line, to the point you can't turn away. I'm truly sacked into the world of Zax and Kalare, and the intrigue surrounding the Boss and Imair... and after a massive twist, I can't wait to see what happens next or why what happened.... Happened.Bring on book Four as soon as possible.I need my fix!

Wow, just wow!
Simply superb. Most sci fi novels have you scratching your head as ideas have not been thought out leaving too many holes...this on the other hand, no holes...it makes sense. It could be a vision of our future, a very accurate vision. The story has you sucked in very quickly, imagination fully engaged, breath taking. I just can not wait for the last two books.
