Old Time Memories
This P-38 appears that it is the same one that was used in Viet-Nam. It is well made, I truly believe thatthis product is the same as I used many times years ago. The quality is the same, works the same, looks as thesame one that came in cases of C-Rations. Those of you that doesn't know what C-Rations are; they are thecanned meals that were fed to the U.S. troops, during WWII. These meals were also used in Viet-Nam. Therewere 12 meals per case and about 3-4 P38's came in the case of meals. The troops had to share these can openers, until later which everyone a P38 of their own and kept it on their dog tag chain.Again this P38 appears to be the same issue in every way. For the price with free shipping, if you want a littlepiece of history and a tool that will work a 100 years from now, order it. This is the same company that madethese openers that were issued to the U.S. troops, in Viet-Nam.

Theses are firmly stamped as Shelby's. These are the real deal and they work beautifully. I think they're very practical to carry since they are so small, light weight and purposeful in a pinch. I find, however, when I first used them they hurt my fingers and hand to use. After a about 20 times using it my hand got use to it and I no longer have the same strain when using it.I only use this to open cans now, because, why not?

It works.
I ordered four to throw into our camping/hiking equipment, they are only there for when all else fails. Most people will not depend of these openers on a day-to-day basis, few cans actually require a can opener anymore however, when you need one, you need one. This design has been around for decades, the first one I saw was carried by my grandfather (WWII), and he told me it came standard in the ‘C’-rats. Luckily he showed us kids how to use it, if you don’t know how there are videos on the web that will walk you through it.The weight is nominal, next to nothing for the hiker. The design, whether a knockoff or not, is proven. With the price, you can get multiples if you are concerned about one breaking (one is none, two is one, three is better).Overall I was happy with the delivery time, packaging, the product, and the performance (no issues so far).I would recommend to anyone, get a couple and put them in your gear for a rainy day.

Wouldn't Want to Use This More Than I Had To
I bought this for camping to lighten the load. I've also used this at home between the time my full size can opener broke and I got another. It works, but I wouldn't want to open more than a couple cans with this. For people with big hands it's a pain to use, and your fingertips will quickly tire using this. I've also noticed that some cans seem to use a thicker or stronger tin than others, making these a lot more difficult to open. After a couple cans I've resorted to using a knife, as a sharp knife will make quicker work of a can lid and save your fingers. So even for camping/backpacking I won't use this any longer, my knife that I carry when I'm out there is better for the job.

It's easy to use, works well.
When I received this tiny thing, I was wondering how it could work? After I google it I found a video on the youtube about how to use it, then I tried to open a can, and I found it is very easy to use and effective.p.s this is the video I found [...] It is helpful, but it is a little long, so you can just skip to middle. :)

Not a happy costumer!
Easily get rust. Bad quality. I bought 10 pcs but i guess all 10 is super bad quality. It Gets rust even if you dont use them if you mix it with 1 the you previously use. Waste of cash. Dont buy!

Does as advertised....opens cans
This pretty much does what you think it does...opens cans. I wouldn't compare it to the fanciest can opener on the market, because it's nowhere close to that, but it opens cans fairly decently. If I were in a situation where I had some cans, and nothing to open them with, this would certainly do the trick. Perhaps not the quickest opener but it's not meant to be. It works when you need it to and it's small and lightweight. I was pretty surprised by how small it was as I figured it to be larger, but apparently there is a p-51 model if you need more leverage. You wont set any Guinness world records for fastest can opener, but in a pinch it does what it says it will do. And it's small and lightweight. I'd advise you to get the p-51 model in addition to this though. This should be in everyone's camping/survival kit.

When you are hungry, the military weapon of choice!
If "an army travels on its stomach" this is one of the great military weapons of all time! Opening a can with one of these requires a lot of wrist action but I don't know of a more reliable method. It's an example of supremely efficient design and it's about as durable as anything you can own. When I was in the Peace Corps I always had one of these on my key ring -- and also afterward, for many years, when I was traveling. Most sensible purchase I ever made.
