Best knife I've ever owned, worst sheath I've ever seen.
Now, ordinarily, I might have rated this four stars because the sheath is so unusable that I had to order the separate hard sheath, but the knife is so fantastic, it's worth the price alone regardless of anything else that was included. Now, I own lots of knives, but at the same time, I'm really not an expert on them. I don't know metal grades and I don't know all that much about tang or what the handle's made out of, but I can tell you that this knife is one solid piece of art. It's so comfortable and just fits perfectly in my hand and has just a perfect weight to it. Definitely the epitome of combat knives (Ka-Bar in general. Not this specific knife. If you need a knife with serration, this knife isn't for you).Okay so anyway. The sheath... It's ridiculous. I literally cannot get the knife to go far enough into the sheath to get the snaps at the top of the handle to snap since, if the knife doesn't slide all the way in, the snaps go around the thicker part of the handle, unable to reach. I've been squeezing it in and trying to jimmy it here and there to get it to go just a few millimeters further and I just can't do it. I just ordered the hard sheath, so hopefully that solves my problem. It's hard to tell what's keeping the knife from going into the sheath. The case is just way too tight and way too firm and the leather seems to have no give whatsoever. I'm not sure if there's a trick I'm missing but I'm keeping my knife in the little white paper slip it came packaged in until my hard sheath arrives.Overall, would I recommend this knife? Absolutely. Just get the hard sheath if you plan on... having a sheath for it.Edit: A few minutes after posting this, I tried to get the knife into the sheath after the sheath had warmed up a bit from the cold outside, I managed to force it in far enough to just barely get the snaps snapped, but I don't think I'd be able to do that very fast if I needed to. Of course, you usually need to take out the knife fast, not put it back in, but I don't think I'd be able to get it back in at all if it was on my waist and not in my hands. Perhaps if I leave it in the hard sheath for a while, the leather will conform to the shape of the knife and become easier to get in and out? I'll give it a try and post again with results.

Remarkable Knife and a Very Fair Price
My first Ka-Bar and I am well pleased. The blade out of the box is more than sharp enough (though not surgically sharp like some folks seem to expect/want) and evenly ground on both sides so it will be easy to maintain the edge. Cosmetically the knife is 100% with an even low glare black coating on the blade and it's well balanced and fits my hand perfectly.Mine came with a black leather sheath, which was initially very tight with a difficult to snap retention strap, but it is loosening up just fine with use and is in fact well suited to my needs. One note on the sheath however: The belt loop is made for a full width military web utility belt. Your average 1" to 1.5" wide leather belt you wear with your jeans is going to be a loose fit in it, allowing the knife considerable free play to move up and down on your hip and slide front to back. This could be an issue for anyone on horse back, climbing or scrambling through rough country. There is a roughly .20 inch hole punched through the tip of the sheath which you can run a lanyard through to tie it to a utility loop on your BDUs or around your thigh to keep it from riding up on your hip if you aren't wearing a webbed belt, or cut a vertical slit the width of your belt in the loop and run your narrower belt through that to positively locate the sheath where you want it.Over all the knife is a darn fine tool at a darn reasonable cost and the leather sheath works well for those that prefer this style for their needs. One caveat: Be aware before you buy this knife that this is NOT a small fixed blade camp or hunting knife. This is a full sized mil-spec combat knife and sheath setup. Ka-Bar makes a fine shorter version of this knife which may be better suited to casual campsite and day hiking &ct.

You can't beat this value
This knife is such a bargain for what you get. It's hard to find any knife of size that is not stainless steel for under $100 much less one of this quality. This is the same Ka-Bar the marines fought their way across the pacific with and according to my grandfather more marines credit this knife than their rifle for getting them home safely. The design was so perfect 75 years ago that it couldn't be improved upon. Mine is identical to my grandfather's. The weight, the balance, the carbon steel blade and the size make this knife the perfect balance between a fighting knife and a survival knife. It's bullet proof; you can't make this thing break. It's a tank.I'm an avid backpacker and thru-hiker and while I have never needed it for fighting, I have used and abused this knife and it just keeps going. It's full tang blade is thick enough for the tough jobs you would normally think would require a much bigger knife. The blunt end on the pommel can pound in ground stakes in the winter. The hard carbon steel blade is a harder to sharpen than the softer metal stainless steel knives in your kitchen but the harder metal repays you in holding its edge much much longer between sharpening. My grandfather still has his and it's still in as good of shape as mine which is only 5 years old. I love it so much I just bought a spare in case I lose mine somehow. Since it's not stainless steel, it's best to coat it with some protective film like oil or better yet, just rub it down once with "Tough Cloth" to keep it from rusting. This knife will last for generations because you can't improve on perfection. I guarantee you will love it and for under $100? It's a no-brainer.

Still have it
Best knife I’ve ever had. Survives years and years of abuse between sharpenings. Sturdiest knife you’ll ever buy.

EXCELENTE CALIDAD.
Es muy robusto y cómodo de usar. El filo de fábrica es decente pero requiere afinarse un poco para poder usarlo correctamente.

The only knife you'll ever need.
Fantastic knife. It arrived relatively sharp although could be sharper. Not a big deal as I've got wet stones to sharpen it with.
