Worth Every Penny!
First, it's KA-BAR, so it's dang near impossible to go wrong with buying one.The D2 steel is a great choice due to the sheer durability and higher resistance to corrosion than the 1095 CroVan steel other KA-BAR knives use.The knife also throws with bullseye accuracy (use the thorn throw aka "no-spin" or "quarter spin" technique from 8-10 feet), not that you'd ever throw your weapon at an assailant unless absolutely necessary. The sheath is a very well stitched military-grade nylon with what I believe is a Kydex insert to protect the nylon. The listing said the knife would come with the Kydex hard sheath, but they sent me the nylon one instead. I'm glad, though, because unlike the Kydex sheath, this one has lots of Mollie straps (even a detachable strap), as well as a belt strap that unbuttons for quickly removing the sheath from your belt without having to take half of your belt off.Though the sheath is great, I removed the in-the-way lower of the two grip straps. This is easily done by carefully snipping the square cross-hatch stitch on the back side of the sheath just below the belt loop snap. No need to cut the nylon. I also removed the upper Velcro Molle strap and put it on another knife. Finally, I've added about 25 feet of 450 lb paracord to the back, held by built-in anchor points. Super handy! The knife does NOT lock into the nylon sheath like the Kydex sheaths, but the fit is tight, and won't immediately slide out if inverted while unstrapping the upper button strap.I keep some basic first aid supplies and some mini ferro rods in the sheath pocket. I prefer a large diamond stone for sharpening (went with a high grit, large DMT brand stone). Serrations can be sharpened with a simple Smith's pocket sharpener. Just be sure you know how to sharpen serrations (opposite technique of sharpening the main edge) so when that day comes where you actually need to sharpen them (it'll be a long time), you won't mess them up.Aside from some sheath design streamlining, I couldn't be happier with this beast!

Great knife, not-so-great sheath.
I absolutely love this knife. I carry it every day as a self defense method, it also works for a great utility knife, though I try not to use it for utilities for obvious reasoning (I don't want to ruin such a well made knife by treating it roughly). The blade is razor sharp, partially serrated (which helps a lot with cutting rope and paracord), and the material of the handle makes it nearly impossible to lose your grip on it. The pommel has a lanyard hole for those who like to keep a lanyard on their gear. The sheath is kydex (I think), a hard plastic mold with a retention system requiring you to bend it back slightly to release your knife, and it also has a button snap to go around your handle for extra safety. It has eyelets for Paracord wrapping if you're the survivalist type like myself, and slots in it for those who want to attach straps for the purpose of carrying it horizontally. It can be easily attached to a MOLLE carrying system. It also has a nylon belt loop for vertical carry. The sheath itself isn't very sturdy though. After just a few days of carrying it horizontally (I put straps on it for that purpose), it cracked at the top of the opening, which now makes the button snap the only safety mechanism I have now to keep it in the sheath. I'm very disappointed with the quality of the sheath.

you can buy any knife, or you can own a KA-BAR!
As an avid knife collector/user I can tell you that you get what you pay for when it comes to blades. This makes my 4th KA-BAR and I love it! This is my first knife made with d2 steel so I'm pretty excited to see how it does, I've only heard good things about it. The main reason I bought this knife is because I had recently got the usmc knife and fell in love with it, being collectable I didn't want to use it so I was going to buy another of the same knife until I came across this one. Now that I have this knife I think it will be my companion blade for my outdoor adventures while my usmc kabar sits in beauty at home. This is a great knife at a great deal! You can buy any knife or you can own a KA-BAR-Frank James lll% (g+)ok so I'm coming back to tell you how I feel about this knife after a few months of using it. This knife is a beast! I have put it through hell. I've split logs with knots in the wood that would destroy other blades, this one takes it with a smile & the D2 steel holds its edge good enough to make some good feather sticks after all the splitting. I use this knife around the house almost every day, weather it's back yard chors or slicing my food, I have also had the joy of taking it out in nature and doing a bit of bushcraft. The ideal bushcraft knife would be a bit smaller and without serrations but this knife will still do those finner task with ease. I can't express how much I love this knife! It goes where I go, if it's not on my hip then it's on my pack or in my hand. Not to mention this will make a mean self defense blade. 5 stars isn't enough, this is a 10 star knife! If your thinking about getting it stop thinking & do it! & if you do then don't be afraid to use it, this isn't a knife you need to baby, it's a work horse ready to run through any task you put it to!P.s. Yes you need a diamond stone to keep it sharp.
