Lonely Planet Eat Malaysia and Singapore: The Complete Companion to Malaysia & Singapore's Cuisine and Food Culture (Lonely Planet Food)

Somewhat problematic lens
This guide published in 2022 includes some outdated reference to MSG being bad for you (this has been debunked ad nauseam in recent years) and also really casual comments about how "It is said that Chinese people will eat almost anything alive..." Um, what? Who do you hang out with is saying this so much that it can be passed off as common knowledge? As someone who is not Malaysian and wants to learn about Malaysian culture. These sections of the book belies a worrisome lens that makes me question the cultural veracity of the rest of the guide. Also as far as travel guides go, this book is a chonk: twice the surface area of the regular lonely planet travel guide. The cover art is great tho and the photography and layout are both well done.
