Weber's Guide To Pipes And Pipe Smoking

This book is one of those "create space" print on demand things that has become a fairly popular way for some jamoke to make a few bucks by publishing a title that has fallen into the public domain and then pocketing the proceeds.The first thing anyone reading will notice is that the book has some editorial errors. There is a misspelling on the title page for crying out loud. And also its quite dated. I don't know when this was published originally, but it was clearly written at a time when spending ten dollars for a briar was considered expensive, and 3 bucks was for an average smoking pipe. This have evidently changed.Now aside from those two things its an excellent book for beginning pipe smokers. It describes how to fill the pipe, how to light it, how to smoke it, clean it and all that good stuff. It also has some good history, info on the briar pipe making process (Weber used to own a pipe company), pipe shapes, and a nice section on tobacco flavors and varieties.If you're interested in getting started in pipe smoking and are looking for a cheap book that has enough info to get you going, this is a good choice. I took a star our for the editing problems and the fact that the book doesn't bother to tell you that its a reprint, but its still a good read on the subject.

The book does contain useful information about pipes, pipe smoking, pipe care and pipe tobacco. If you are looking to learn the basics I'd recommend it. I did knock off a star however, as I found typos upon just a quick skim through the book, and I always find that a bit of a turn off in any book. Edit: After reading more of the book, I'm keeping it at 4 stars. While it's got decent information, it just wasn't that.. readable. It was a bit blah. I found Pipesmoking: A 21st Century Guide by Richard Carleton Hacker to be a much better read.

Awesome book...........Easy, enjoyable read, GREAT for the novice/beginner pipe smoker. JAM-PACKED, with super useful information....ALL ABOUT PIPES AND PIPE SMOKING!!!>>>>>> No gibberish.I bought this book, as a secondary/back-up book ,to "another Gentleman's book", I also purchased from Amazon, about pipe smoking, that book, had great reviews and wonderful preview pages.............THAT BOOK, was the 1st time in my history of shopping Amazon that I was ever disappointed in any way whatsoever.THIS BOOK....however, turned out to be very much, a "bible for the novice pipe smoker", type of book...and I was PLEASANTLYsurprised...especially after "the other" highly touted book...was a super super dud.... and that for me is the understatement of the year.THANK YOU Mr.Weber (If your still kickin') I hope you are!

I, like many men, have enjoyed the idea of smoking a pipe. It looks calm, professional, and above all relaxing. However, I never knew how to do it. My father smoked for years, so I finally asked him to pack me a bowl - and I failed at it. Over and over again. It's not easy. It's not like smoking a cigarette or cigar.This book breaks how to smoke a pipe down into easily understood bits. It makes you learn to smoke slow and cool so you don't burn the tobacco to ash and you lose your fingerprints. Sure, it's old, but it's still very valuable if you want to get into the hobby.

Good info

This is an early tome on the subject of pipes , tobacco and pipe smoking. This was one of the first books I read. Very informative and encyclopedic . Highly recommended even though it does not have the colorful photographs or the other trappings of newer more recent volumes.

Great book for beginners , teaches all or most technics a pipe smoker needs to know.

The book has great info in it about packing the bowl and managing the heat of the bowl. It also has some good history to pipe smoking. Only issue.. The dollar amounts quoted for pipes is way off.
