An impressive knife
I've been carrying a knife everyday for more than 30 years. I retired from Ford Motor Co. where I designed things. Knives are a hobby of mine. In addition to collecting and carrying knives, I study the design of knives and the materials from which they are constructed. The Civivi Cogent is a lot of bang for the buck! Of course, the blade is not of a "super steel" and the black finish is surely not a DLC coating as the Cogent is not an exceptionally expensive pocketknife. But, the fit and finish of the materials employed is excellent, at least on my sample. The action of my Cogent is buttery smooth. The blade tip is centered and there is zero blade play in my sample. Plus, the edge came hair shaving sharp. In short, the Civivi Cogent is a screaming bargain, and I would highly recommend it....

A Dark Horse knife worth the price
Stumbled across this while looking for a non liner-lock backup knife to have in a pack that would be about have the price of this Cogent. I was intrigued by the design and figured I’d give it a shot. Glad I did, this is a keeper.Blade out of the box is impressively sharp; can shave arm hair with ease. A simple workout on a leather strop really brings that up to peak razor sharpness. The lockup is fantastic as the blade simply has zero play. That’s a huge factor to me as I distrust liner-locks that often have some wiggle. Blade profile is nice with a very pointed tip. Jimping on the spine is well placed to allow careful control by the user.Flipper is extremely smooth, a light flick will pop the blade out into a locked position. You can even depress the lock release instead and with a simple wrist flick have the blade snap right out. Handle seems fine, allows for a good grip and has a decent, low profile pocket clip. There’s a review here I saw where the user left a 1/5 star review after he snapped the blade tip while digging into ice. I wouldn’t think this would have to be elaborated but this knife is not a KA-BAR, it is not an appropriate blade for doing things like that. The blade is thinner than more robust options, and it means it offers a different purpose like EDC instead of survival tool. I would speculate a chunkier blade wouldn’t work as well as a flipper.Highly recommend this knife as an EDC, don’t be a dummy like the ice chipping guy and stress this knife with inappropriate uses.

Great looking and SHARP knife
I've had a Damascus-style knife on my wish list for quite a while. CIVIVI had a good selection and seems to have a good reputation. They're reasonably priced but not cheap. Let me tell you first of all this knife is SHARP. Cuts far better than my old Gerber folding knife it was replacing, and seems to develop and hold an edge much better. Knife looks just like the image, with the natural variations in the pattern. It's very light. I like the "flipper" style as it's easy to use one-handed, and the button lock keeps it securely open while making it simple and intuitive to close. Very pleased with this knife.

Great knife!
My boyfriend loves these. They open and close very smooth. The clip is also positioned great so it doesn’t stick out from your belt too far.

great knife, extremely smooth action, perfect size
it was razor sharp right out of the box, comes with a nice little bag and a cloth to wipe it down. flips open and closed smooth as butter. very easy to open and close with 1 hand, both left or right. when the blade is locked there is absolutely zero wiggle. when the blade is folded closed there is a good amount of detent so it won't just open by itself, and when you use the flipper it pops open. the blade is centered perfectly down the middle. handles are grippy and don't scratch easily. it feels really comfortable in the hand, you can tell right when you first hold it that this is a high quality knife. the pocket clip is a bit tight but that just means you won't lose your awesome new knife.the main reason i got this knife is to play with it while i watch shows/youtube and its perfect for that, on top of being a really great every day knife. obviously its no microtech otf but it has amazing action and costs less than 1/4 of that price. this is a full 5/5 from me i cant find anything bad to say about it.

Amazing value in a quality knife
I'm the kind of guy that does my homework before I decide which product to purchase. I look at all the options. Study the product rating and reviews. The whole nine. When I decided I wanted to buy a quality knife for each of my 3 grandsons for Christmas (their first pocket knife), I wanted something that was well beyond your cheap $10 flea market knife. I wanted something that would last them a lifetime. Something that would have them think of me each time they used it long after I'm gone. Well, this knife did not disappoint!Action is smooth. Very little play in the blade when open. Solid construction. Extremely sharp as you would expect from a quality blade. I ended up purchasing 6 of them! One for each of the grand kids. One for my son-in-law, my son, and myself! That's saying something! If you're looking for a quality knife but don't want to break the bank, your should definitely consider this knife.

This is my 2nd Civivi knife I bought in the last few months.
I bought the first Civivi knife for my son as a gift. I inspected it before sending to him and was surprised at how awesome the knife was. It was superior to a knife I bought that was TWICE the price tag. So I bought a 2nd one for myself. The blade is razor sharp out of the box. The steel blade is high quality. The handle may not be titanium, but that keeps the overall cost down. The opening of the Civivi knives is what is so amazing. The ball bearing pivot makes the blades open effortlessly. and they close effortlessly as well. Once you try one in your hand you'll see what I mean. An amazing knife.
