UPDATE: 6-2018 - Still a Very good mattress.
UPDATE: 6-2018 - We've retired to FL, from cold and snowy NH, and I was genuinely concerned about the heat, from sleeping on a heated waterbed, in a climate known for it's heat and humidity. We looked at new beds, and when we scraped our jaws off the floor from seeing the price-tags, we decided we would give it a shot with our old reliable, after all. I did not take great care when dis-assembling my waterbed in NH, because I never imagined using it again, and only took it because hubby insisted. It sat for months in the heat of a moving POD, in NH and FL, and another month sitting around packed and waiting, before we decided for sure to try it. It held it's shape, no stinky residue inside, and no holes in her. I stand by my original review, and if you're as blown away as I am that they could charge a thousand bucks for a big piece of foam, and tell you it's a Sale, then please, consider this option. Even in FL, this is cooler than sleeping on foam. .TIP: We use an old comforter on top of the waterbed, underneath the bottom sheet. This helps to keep the heater from running unnecessarily, and keeps our bodies cooler, by keeping a thicker layer between the plastic mattress and the sheets. Win-win.-------------------- Original Review ---------------------Very good mattress. Only time will tell on the longevity, but this is a nice heavy material, with well reinforced corners, and it seems to be pretty much the same mattress we had - and that one lasted a long time. The only reason we replaced it, after many years, was because of a power surge that blew out our heater, which then overheated the mattress. Fortunately, it withstood the hot spot, and did not leak - even with a big burn mark in it that welded it to the liner, and burned the wood beneath it all. (Whew!)I will say this one has a slight plastic-y odor, which I don't recall from earlier mattresses, but I've never replaced one in winter before, so I'm thinking the heavy blankets, and constant heating are culprits. I only catch a slight whiff of it when I first get in, and now that it's been a few weeks, I don't even smell it anymore when I get in.If you're new to waterbeds, this is just a giant plastic bag that holds water. Nothing else is inside. It has the shape of a mattress, but you still need the waterbed frame to hold it's shape. We've been using them for decades (33 yrs), and no other bed compares to the comfort. If you have achy muscles or bones (like my arthritis), this is heaven to sleep in.

This is a quality product and I am pleased at how inexpensive it was
I am quite happy with my new mattress. It was the least expensive I could find on the internet and I see no problems. I have had quite a few free flow waterbed mattresses and this one is just fine. There really is not much to them. It is a big water bladder. This one seems pretty durable. The only weird thing here is that the one they sent is red not blue.

Exactly as described
I ordered this after talking to doctors about pain and allergies I was having in my $800 individual wrapped coil mattress I got 9 months ago. I weigh 265lbs and I have circulation issues. While I was skeptical I couldn’t ignore the pain in my kidney area every morning or the problem simply stepping onto the floor in the morning. I saw a free waterbed frame on a social media marketplace and made the choice to pick it up. I setup the frame and started looking for bladders. I used my current mattress in the frame until I got this bladder. Every morning the same pain. I have slept on this new bed one night and I honestly slept so good. No dry nose, no back pain and, although it’s harder to get up off of, I didn’t feel the feet pain near as much.I know what you’re saying;“it’s got poor reviews claiming it’s not as described, wrong size, or otherwise.”Simply not true. As pictured, it came (no smell) exactly as branded, sized and colored. I got the kit from the bed frame owners to fill it, as well as 3 bottles of water conditioner they had extra. If you follow the fill instructions you will have no problem.Step 1. Make sure your hard frame is correctly assembled and place your heat pad down in the center of the lowest (foot area) of your bed.Step 2. Make sure you keep your heat pads thermometer wire away from the heat source (up by where you lay your head.Step 3. Lay your bed liner over the heating pad. Ensure you have all corners lined up.Step 4. Open you water bed bladder and lay it out (it will seem bigger than the frame by a few inches on each side) so that the edges lay a little up all 4 sides evenly. Make sure you position the fill zone at the bottom (feet area) of your bed.Step 5. Remove cap and plug from mattress and insert your fill kit spout/drain. I used one from blue magic brand. Ensure the drain side is turn to its lowest point and closed. Attach your hose to the connector on the filler spout tightly.Step 6. Pour 1 bottle of water conditioner into the other end of the hose before attaching it to your water supply. (I used my washers cold water hookup)Ensure all connections are tight and lay a towel around the filler/waterbed side in case of leaks or drips.DO NOT FILL WITH HOT WATER - this could cause damage to your bladder and weaken seals/seams as well as cause damage to your hose/filler spout seals.Step 7. Slowly turn on your cold water and check for leaks before opening the valve all of the way. If all looks good proceed to open it fully. Your water conditioner will be applied immediately as it was in your hose. It lubricates the vinyl as well as conditions the water to ensure a long lasting product. Don’t cut corners.Step 8. Once it’s full, check for sturdiness in the mattress. Lift the spout by the vinyl around the filler location and see how much air is in it. You should hear the water pouring at this point once lifted but don’t pull on the hose/filler tool. Adjust any corners if needed and let it fill until you are happy with the pressure. Make sure you don’t go more than and inch over a 6” hard side. And I mean the curv of the top side of the mattress. It’s not a rigid 90 degree hard wall. It will curve like filling a water balloon.Step 10. Turn off the water and remove the filler from the mattress while holding the filler spot higher than the rest of the bed. With one hand reach towards the mid section of the bed and press any air down and pull towards you while allowing the spout to drop to the height of the water. I called it burping the bed. Get as much air out as you can. If you forgot the conditioner in the beginning this is an okay time to add it instead of draining, although it is Recommended to add it earlier to allow it to coat the walls of the bladder. Replace plug, then cap and tighten. Turn the vinyl “branded tag flap to cover your filler.Final step. Turn your heating pad on and adjust the temp to your liking. It will be 4-5 days on average to achieve this temp. Place your sheets on and pillows/blanket(s) and take a deep breath. It wasn’t that hard, was it? It looks like a lot but you quickly realize these are so easily done that you found the hardest part in the waiting!I bought a 3” memory foam mattress pad and placed it on top before I placed my sheets on. I did buy some waterbed sheets with corner elastic and laid them over the memory foam before placing my normal sheets. I got one that is made of easy clean material so when I change my normal sheets I can just spray and wipe it down, let it air dry and put clean sheets on.I hope you try this as the benefits are amazing. I know water beds are more work, less movable and frankly a pain to setup/take down, but you get what you pay for (so to speak). More work, bigger reward.I also want to mention that they warranty this bladder for up to 20 years… the first 2 years being free replacement and after that it’s an incremental cost to replace. Last year is 10% off but it’s something, 20 years later…I hope this helped you take the leap and I hope you got use from my step by step guide.Enjoy~
