Lots of good photographs but as the author admits this is an historical miscellany. The history of crude oil tankers was driven by hard won experience. The author is right to emphasise the importance of the introduction of the inert gas system but should perhaps have given more emphasis to the impact of Crude Oil Washing, not merely on the efficiency gains it gave to the larger tankers but also to the beneficial impact on marine pollution which at one time threatened the future of the industry.
