Quality Leadership Read!
Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair's former spokesman and strategist, does a phenomenal job defining what it takes to win and lead well. His book Winners is truly a masterpiece on leadership. He manages to build a tapestry of failures and success from the likes of men like Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair, Lance Armstrong, Angela Merkel, Richard Branson, and so many others. The overarching theme of his book are its bookends, the OST Method - objective, strategy, and tactics. He suggests that these are the three critical components of every consistent winner's method of operation. Campbell insists that the approach to reaching objectives be simple, as well as the strategy and tactics to reach them. Making it absolutely impossible not to act consistently in response to the objective. Personally, I have re-adapted my own purpose statement, and the format of some of my goals, to reflect parts of his model. It has been rather helpful in actualizing some of those goals that were dormant. Overall, really great read!

If you can't win, then what's the point.
Throughout the book, I found that one of our everyday question each time we wake to set out in our endeavours is how we are going to win, and Alistair uses winners in sports first, business and politics to show how these people have done it. Having a strong winning mindset, thinking you will win and working hard towards winning is part of that formula for anyone.

Too many stories related to the political arena and sports. Otherwise a decent read to inspire motivation.

Ignore the Title
Interesting helicopter view, setting out common aspects of successful leaders that make good sense with wide ranging examples. Well written, clearly organized (the author readily admits to being a control freak) and entertaining, with many amusing and revealing anecdotes. The title implies that this is yet another simplistic self-help book, it is not. Alastair Campbell was "In the Thick of It" for many years advising Tony Blair and gained very level headed insights into the qualities of successful leaders (and the failings of the not so successful).

Winners from Sports, Politics and business have certain common traits.
In 2015, while pondering over taking plunge into entrepreneurship after 8 years corporate life I chanced upon book by Napoleon Hill-'Think and grow rich'. Giving my state my mind, I found the book very inspiring and intriguing. I would put 'Winners and how they succeed' by Alastair Campbell in the same league though it is more contemporary in scope and relevance.Alastair Campbell ( not the former Zimbabwean cricketer ) has come up with his formula to become a winner based on his experience with leaders and successful personalities across the world. He defines them and tries to show the way to become one. He backs his recipe and opinion with numerous examples about Winners in different field from different countries. Please note that all the names mentioned on the cover are discussed inside. The book is broadly divided into four parts and each part is further segregated into sub-parts. In each part he shares his ideas and prescription to become a winner. The ideas are further expounded in form of sub-parts. First part is an absolute eye opener for people who has tendency to overthink and procrastinate. Rest three build up on what is being taught in first part. Last section in each part is exclusively details one or more personalities to make the previously discussed points more pertinent and robust. He picks examples primarily from Sports ( soccer- Ronaldo, Ferguson etc, cricket- Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne etc cycling- Lance Armstrong), Politics( Tony Blair, Obama, Bill Clinton, Narendra Modi, Nelson Mandela etc.) and Entrepreneurs ( Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates etc.).Since Campbell has had the opportunity to interact with most of the personalities ( that he frequently quotes ) personally his anecdotes are in sync with context of his ideas and remains relevant to our times and generation. As reader it is easy to remain connected to the theme.Anyone who is looking for a book that can help him/her reflect on shortcoming and improve to become a leader in their respective field should go through the book once. It is always better to introspect and check through examples if one is on right track. Winner's journey is mostly unique and lonely but there are always some common threads that connects their story. Read it to learn, unlearn, relearn and improve. It helped me immensely and I hope there would be more readers like me.:-)

Fact based winning
This is a simply wonderful book, because it draws on the unique experience of a man who has seen parts of the world through the eyes, hearts and instincts of winners. It is unlike its peers a fact based examination of winning. This book will appeal to people who need to change to aspire to their own greatness and who need role models to guide them.

Motivador.
Recomendo.
