The StudBuddy Plus Magnetic Stud Finder and Level

We wanted to hang some cool shoe cabinets but needed to find a stud to secure them to. We are not handy and have no clue how to do anything like this but with this tool we got the job done. It inspired me to get some other tasks done too because it was easy to use. There is a learning curve because you need to move slowly. I was going too fast and getting frustrated at the start not finding any studs. Found them no problem at a slower pace.

Like most people I've been using stud finders for most of my life. They work (sometimes), but many times have problems getting an accurate reading.I saw this and thought I'd give it a try because the concept seemed so simple, I figured it would probably work. It does! No calibrating, no erroneous readings, it just works. You simply move the tool across the surface from side to side and adjust up and down a bit with each pass. You will quickly know when you've hit a stud because this thing will instantly 'grab' and lock onto the screw or nail it finds. It holds firmly in place, so you can mark the position easily, without holding the stud finder. And since it locks onto the screw or nail, you can be pretty sure you've got the stud center. (I can't tell you how many times I've used a traditional stud finder and just missed the edge entirely based on its reading.)It has vertical and horizontal levels built in, which is a nice plus. I wish I had one of these years ago as it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.The only improvement I could suggest (StudBuddy people are you listening??) is to add a laser line projector to the end of this thing. That, combined with the levels would allow easy marking of the stud center along the projected line, completely hands-free. I would buy that tool for sure if you make it!!So, simple is better. It's as simple as that. I highly recommend this product and will be buying a few more as gifts for my favorite people, as I know they will be most appreciated.

I was surprised by how good this was when compared to electronic stud finders. I've tried and returned a whole lot of them, you couldn't realy rely on any of them to be 100% accurate. This on the other hand is so simple, a level with a strong magnet in it and works pretty much every time.The magnets are strong enough to easily "grab" onto the nails / screws holding the plasterboard into place on the studs as you pass over them. Then you can also use it as a level when finding your next hole position. Really simple but effective
