Question 1

Is the cost of this heater (more than 3x the lasko 754200 ceramic heater w/adjustable t'stat) worth it? Great reviews on both; why choose this one?

I have an older version of the Vornado, purchased in 2008.   A couple of years ago, the toggle switch stopped working.  Had it replaced at an appliance shop.  Worked for about 2-3 years more!  The switch has gone dead again.  I loved my Vornado.  It was perfect.  I have researched most of the lasko and after having the Vornado, have just decided it is too small and I don't need oscillating.  My older Vornado has "fan only" which is a great addition most are not coming out with anymore.  A comparable Vornado to the one I already have would cost maybe $20-40 more.  Am  trying to decide whether to repair it again or get a new one.  I think I would not feel as safe with the Lasko -- just my feelings after the Vornado.

Question 2

My unit makes buzzing/static like sound when it is on low setting but not on high. Is this normal? Or is it something wrong with? Should i return?

The slight buzzing is NORMAL on LOW only. It's the regulation circuit on the control board. Note: if you have low voltage condition (110v-115v) when a 750-1500 watt load is on the circuit, this heater (on low) may go into "protect" mode because the fan doesn't spin fast enough to remove the heat from inside the unit.

just received this heater, it works out of the box but isn’t working now. Is there a way to troubleshoot or is it already broken?

Same thing happened, but next day it started working again!  And i already returned one for same issue.  It seems what's happening is the tip-over switch gets flipped and turning off/on won't reset.  But let it sit over night and discharge.  Guess what -- it works great today -- I'm totally serious.  I tried everything yesterday to get it to work.  I tried everything yesterday to fix it, it would come "on" but no fan/heat.  Today works great.   So fan needs some time to discharge once the tip-over switch is flipped.  What you should do is  turn it on "AFTER" you have it plugged in, after you pull it out of the box, so tip-over switch is not flipped.   If you don't do that, you can reset it by unplugged the unit over night, and then try again-->  (after its been unplugged for a while) move to proper location, THEN plug in and operate.   It will then work perfectly.

what size room will this heat?

That is not an easy question to answer, because there are many variables, like room insulation, outdoor temperature.  This heater did warm my 2 car garage during wintertime with outdoor temps in the 30’s.  The garage is well insulated and attached to my home.  The garage stayed in the 60’s with the heater on high.  It has great circulation.  Hope this is some help.
