Amazing Radio
I spend a lot of time on my allotment where there's no power supply so I wanted a radio that was durable, able to work in all weather, that didn't cost a fortune in batteries and which didn't need charging every two or three hours. This radio is perfect for that. It has both a wind up and solar charging option and, it has a digital display for tuning, which makes it really easy to find your favourite station. The sound quality is excellent too.

Its got everything
It is a lot more than you would expect for the price. A small compact transistor radio, but packed with features. I needed it for my mother-in-law who lives on an island with frequent storms and unreliable power supply. So she needs to know what happening (radio), she needs to see the dial (backlight), she needs to see where she is (LED Light), she needs to power it, (WindUp and Solar). Good sound and easy tuning. Switches, buttons, and knobs feel a bit flimsy but good for the price. The style is similar to a games controller, so keep out of the kids reach. Need to see how it lasts but looks good value for money and all the features you are likely to need.

A little gem - every home should have one!
For the price this is an excellent little radio. I bought it mainly for two purposes: First, as an emergency radio for use in power cuts, which sadly are a fact of life in the remote valley where I live. Second, I wanted a small portable radio I could use occasionally in the bathroom and not have to bother with buying or separately charging, batteries. This is excellent for both purposes. Don't expect HiFi and you won't be disappointed. The sound is adequate - better for speech than music and the volume is good enough if you sit reasonably close to the set or are in a smallish room. It can be charged by cranking it - a minute or so will give you half an hour of sound. It sits on my window sill (which faces West) and seems to solar charge even on a dull day. Finally, there is a USB lead which will charge it from a laptop or from the mains via an adaptor. The led torch is a bonus (for power cuts or camping) as is the ability to charge your mobile phone in a power cut. It is a neat, reasonably stylish little radio ideal for power cuts, the bathroom, by your bed or in the garden. Even in these days of DAB radio and radio via your TV and the internet, almost every home would benefit from this little gem. The blurb with it (which you should read) says it should last for up to five years - that will do me - and it works out at £3 per year - what's not to like?

Solar emergency radio WITH clock display
Was looking at a whole load of emergency radios for use in an extended power cut, or for camping without ehu, and in the end chose this one. Although I know I have a clock on my phone, I felt a clock display was quite high on my priority list, in case my phone dies. As far as I can tell very few emergency radios have this fairly basic function, and this made it my first choice. Other than that, I think it's smaller than many alternatives, looks stylish and feels nice to hold. It has headphone jack which might be important to avoid annoying neighbours in the tent next to you. Torch is very bright and LCD backlight useful to see the time on the clock in the dark (but turns off after about 10 secs). Radio reception in my house is very poor, even on my more expensive radio alarm clocks, but I could pick up 5Live on AM reasonably well, but can't really comment on general sound quality if you had better reception. Still, generally happy with it, but would be perfect if it had a 4000mAh battery to charge your mobile.... but then it would have to be bigger and more expensive!!

The plastic coating degrades and becomes gammy
I am considering binning this.First off, there is some issue with the battery, power button, solar charging or something. I did a routine check on it and noticed that the clock only works when the unit is powered on from the button underneath. When I switch the power button off, the clock resets. So no real point having a clock on it really. Also, after 2 years the plastic has degraded and got that gammy, sticky, degraded plastic gack all over it. I managed to clean it up mostly, but its insanely annoying that it produces a reliable degree of plastic goo coating over time. I dont really want it in my kit bag, where it might offload gack onto other items which I will then have to clean off with solvent. And THAT in itself is an issue. In an emergency, on the road, I dont want to risk coating my hands with gack that cant be removed with normal soap or wet wipes. In fact there it is ... this is an emergency radio that requires you pack solvent wipes to clean IT and yourself.
