The verdict is still out - several niggles
The receiver is very good, picking up the same weak stations with the same resolution as an expensive ICOM HF ham tranceiver. I have not completed testing yet, but the following issues are still to be resolved:- 1) the supplied microphone does not work. I suspect that the plug connections are incorrect for this radio. The PTT switches to transmit but it will not modulate the signal. The built-in microphone works OK 2) No user manual or instructions whatsoever, meaning that I have no idea whether the jack sockets need 2, 3 or 4 wire jack plugs, or whether the UART signals are 3.3V, 5V or RS232, or whether it is Tx and Rx only or also has DCD/RTS - or anything regarding the data format or baud rate. 3) the control knob works in reverse - i.e. turning clockwise *decreases* the frequency or volume etc. 4) I have no idea whether it is charging or not, or where to put the 3-position slide switch to charge the internal battery. 5) I have still not figured out the logic of the the menu button and knob push switches, they seem to jump around to different items or digit positions randomly. 6) having a single knob is very inconvenient - to adjust the volume, RF gain or RIT for example requires you to enter the main menu and select the appropriate option before you can adjust those things - taking several seconds.
