Great little monitor.
For the price this monitor seems great. Beautiful color and picture. Fairly easy to install. Quite lacking on instructions as to which wire goes where. Black and red are pretty obvious but no mention of what the blue wire is for. Only through reading others reviews did I find it is for auto energizing the monitor when selecting reverse gear. If blue wire is not attached to backup light circuit you have to manually turn the monitor on. I hooked up the blue wire and it works great. Only one issue I have had is that often when I use reverse, the monitor comes on and stays on after I've shifted out of reverse leaving a blue screen and I have to turn the monitor off manually. Not a big issue but one none the less. I like that it has input for two cameras. I mounted a second camera down low so as to see under my trailer and energize that camera with a separate power switch. That way I can turn that second camera on while going forward and see the tires on my trailer to know if I have a flat tire. I would definitely recommend this monitor. Can't speak to the longevity of it, only had it a couple of weeks. If it continues to work as it does now I'll order another one for my other truck.Update: It is now May 2019, four years and this camera and monitor is still working perfectly. Didn't expect it to work this long.

Great product, lousy documentation.
The Display comes in a box which makes no mention of any camera, however the camera was included as advertised. There is extremely little documentation included, most of which is designed for multiple models, and the model you get is not readily apparent. That being said, if you have the slightest idea of what you are doing it is easy to hook up, and the picture quality is good. Color hues are a bit off, but for backing up, I could care less: a child or a car still looks like a child or a car. One tip for other installers: the blue (acc) lead from the display is like the trigger lead for power amplifiers: you must wire it so that it receives power when you want the screen to come on. If you are using it for a back-up cam, then run a wire from the reverse light circuit to both the camera and the display. If you want it on all the time, then wire it to the "key-on" hot lead from your fuse panel along with the black lead from the display.I installed it in a car with very dark rear window tint, and a poor mirror system so that I could see where I am backing up. The quoted 170* view may or may-not be true, but it is adequate for my purposes. Picture is instant-on when I select reverse, and the image is clear. I mounted the camera directly to the license plate bolt, and it seems to be fine. The included camera has night-vision capability which is enhanced by your car's reverse lights and brakes (when you use them).Good Product, great price. I have not tested the "water-proof-ness" of the camera, but other reviews suggest a bead of silicon rubber or clear nail polish around seams. I will be adding that before it goes out in the rain or carwash.I would consider buying another one of these for another car, or just for any surveiance project. At 7watts power draw, you can run this with a cheap 12vDC transformer (I had one from an old answering machine.)

It's okay and here's why....
The monitor works so that was good. The resolution is okay, but certainly not great. There is a tiny area at one edge of the screen that appears as dead pixels clumped together. Not sure if I did that pulling off the protective screen cover, but I don't see how that is possible. This will not be a major problem. The buttons are cheap, but functional. The mount for this device is reasonably sturdy and can be tilted up and down, but don't expect to be able to rotate the screen left to right. The remote control works fine. The camera works good. Overall, I think you can buy these two items seperately for cheaper than I paid ($61). Rotating the picture on screen is a nice plus along with the mirror option. 2 video input is a good standard feature to have also. This screen comes with the plastic housing that I believe is used when fitting it in the car stereo area. I would not give up my car stereo to have this display instead so that may be something you want to think about if you plan to give it as a gift. I'd prefer to have one of those displays built into the rear view mirror or a smaller screen to place on the dashboard instead. Even better yet, I wish someone would build a wireless backup camera that can use the smartphone display I have mounted already. So, I received this as a gift and decided that I would use this LCD screen for a different application. I use it as a display for any device with NTSC using a composite video out (yellow RCA) connector. I can mount this screen in hidden areas and play xbox or watch movies during down time. : ) The resolution is not the best, but I can play a video game or watch movies with no problems at alI. I had to by a couple of things to make this work first. A 12V DC Power supply from Etekcity and a Power Jack Adapter from LEDCREELIGHT got the screen ready for a power from a standard wall outlet (110V). It's built to use existing car power connections not to plug into the wall, but it works great for that too! The monitor has no speakers so you'll also have to figure out a way to get the audio to headphones or a speaker. Fun times ahead for me! There is also an additional video input so that you can have the camera on watchout too. Haha!

Important things I learned During Installation - Instructions and video cable
The monitor is clear with great color, The camera appears to be waterproof as advertized. Lots of rain in the last 2 weeks. Picture quality still great. I learned a lot while installing this back up camera that I want to pass along since it comes with NO instructions. First. Do not use the included 20 foot video cable provided with the unit. I used it and found that It is not capable of carrying the video the distance needed without loosing most of the signal resulting in a very poor to non-existant picture. Second. I originally wired the monitor to the cigarette lighter so that it would turn on only while the key was on. Bad idea. The first drive with it was just after the sun went down and the monitor was so bright in my face that I could not see to drive. My solution to the issues was to wire the power to both the camera and to the monitor from the back-up light in the back of my quad cab full size pick-up truck. This means running the power from the back-up light to the monitor. This turned on the camera and the monitor only when I was in reverse. I replaced the flimsy tiny 20 foot video cable with coax cable (this is the cable used in your house to connect the tv to the cable company outlet. There are 2 sizes so you will need to buy the appropriate male RCA connectors, 1 for each end. You can buy the connectors at Home Depot and the tool to compress the conectors to the cable there as well. Probably avail also at Radio Shack but will cost more there.) While I was running the new videao coax cable from the back to the front of the truck, I also ran a 14 guage black and red wire for power at the same time. As I ran these I used zip ties to attach them to the existing factory installed cableing for the rear lights. At this point I was ready to go. I put the truck in reverse but the monitor did not turn on at all. Turns out (after several hours of scratching my head) that the ground was too weak. I found under the hood that the negative batery cable had two wires from it. One went to the engine block and the other went to the truck body. The one bolted to the truck body was easy to work with. I soldered a large lug to the end a fairly heavy 14 guage black wire that was large enought to accept the ground wire bolt attaching the ground to the truck body. I ran the other end into the cab and attached it the junction of the black wire from the back-up light and the black wire from the monitor. Once this connection was made the monitor turned on with a beautiful picture. Took me 2 weekends to figure it all out and to re-run all the wires from the back to the front

Digital car rear view monitor and camera
Although I like this unit it truly does not come with good instructions it has 2 different ways to mount the unit and the camera unit doesn't really have a way to mount it other than screwing it in tightly to the car. I ended up attaching it to the license plate that way I didn't damage my car exterior. I have an older van a 1997 Dodge caravan because it still runs very well we use it but it's always had one major problem you cannot keep a rearview mirror attached to the windshield I had to replace the windshield about 10 years ago and the little metal piece that holds the mirror to the window would not stay attached I've taken it to glass dealers and everyone else where you have the 2 outside mirrors and they help a lot however I bought this to see if I can use it as a rearview mirror and I have to honestly say it works extremely well for that and as an added bonus backing up is very nice all in all this was a great buy for me and I recommend it the picture quality is outstanding and it doubles as a small video display Although don't use it as that while you're driving you don't want to be distracted
