Not quite as good looking as regular cakes… but they’re certainly very tasty!
So I have uploaded some images of my first effort from the book, whilst my mug cake won’t win any WI prizes, I was pretty impressed with both the ease of making and the taste, we are mug cake converts in our household!I am impressed with this book, I have posted a recipe listing at the end but in short it would make for a great gift for teenagers and adults alike, owing to how easy and tasty the recipes are. Although do note one section is ‘happy hour’ and some cakes do have a couple of tablespoons of alcohol… so maybe not for younger readers. My wife who also loves to bake ‘regular cakes’ loves the convenience this book offers as well as the novelty, so it’s for baking purists too I believe. The book has 40 recipes with 10 recipes in each of the 4 main recipe sections:ClassicsOccasionsHappy hourTreats and PudsSome of the sections are a bit of stretch – e.g. Almond and Berry Breakfast mug in ‘Occasions’?But all in all, section controversy aside, the book is filled with inspiring recipes and the majority of which have a very nice and colourful image to accompany them. It’s early days for us but our first mug cakes have been a taste success, just some have had ‘erupted’ whilst my wife’s cake was a little hard to get out of the mug. All in all though it’s a book we bought on a whim and I’m glad we did. I am now buying another as a gift for our 12 year old neighbour who is very keen on baking, with some recipes for her parents too!All in all very highly recommended.================RECIPE LIST================CLASSICS========Chocolate and Peanut ButterCarrot CakeVanilla ConesGingerbreadTriple Chocolate CakeChocolate BrownieBanana BreadCoffee and WalnutBlueberry MuffinGluten Free Chocolate CakeEgg-Free Chocolate CakeOCCASIONS==========Black Forest CakeBirthday BonanzaStrawberries and Cream Victoria SpongeAlmond and Berry Breakfast MugLemon and Poppy Seed DrizzleBramble CakeHoney CakeRainbow CakeHalloween GhostRed Velvet CakeChristmas CakeHAPPY HOUR============Pina ColadaCoke FloatMochaBaileys on the rocksGuinness CakeWhite RussianMojitoTREATS AND PUDS================Salted Caramel and ChocolateLamingtonsRaspberry and Pistachio Rice CrispiesChocolate, Ginger and Pear CakeChocolate Chip CookieRocky RoadChocolate Fudge SmoresChocolate and Caramel Popcorn SundaeUpside down Apple and Cinnamon CakeLemon Curd Cheesecake

amazing easy to follow recipes
My daughter is a teacher and has one food technology lesson a week that lasts for 30 minutes. It is challenging to make something from scratch for 6 children but this book has proved to be perfect. They have made a few different recipes and all have been successful as well as easy. The children really enjoy making the easy to follow recipes. The pictures are clear and in full colour and ideal for showing children what they are going to achieve.I would highly recommend the book for anyone that is in a hurry and thinking of making a quick sweet treat. You can even make it at work.I think it is a clever idea and it gives you ideas for making your own "tweaked" versions of the recipes too.

A great little book - lots of fun
What a great little book! It seems so unlikely that a satisfactory cake could be made in the microwave but these cakes really do taste good. There are unusual recipes too - we like the Coke Float. It's a great book for a winter's afternoon when it is cold and dark and you suddenly fancy tea and cake.I would recommend getting an extra big mug to use. I found that the cakes tended to overflow if I used a standard mug. Also, you may find the time required (especially for melting the butter) needs to be extended a little. Or maybe my microwave is just getting a bit old and tired...

Fab little book , leave it by the microwave !
This is a great little book , mainly bought to make quick cake/desserts for unexpected guests. Its turned out to be a good source for safe quick Gluten Free recipes ...substituting some ingredients e.g. flour for GF , I don't have to worry about cross contamination or having something available for them to eat :)

Not bad, kids enjoy it, cakes are ok, washing up is hard
Bought for my kids who love the idea of mug cakes. Having tried a few of them, I think the chocolate ones are quite nice. A bit hit and miss though. A few were too dry, a few soggy. The one issue I have though is cleaning the mug after which is a real chore with all the sticky cake mix. You gotta soak it well.
