Decadent And Rich Product That Would Make A Fun Gift For Your Favorite Foodie
Desert Farms Grass-Fed Camel Ghee Butter is a decadent and rich product that would make a fun gift for your favorite foodie. When I opened the 9 oz bottle, the camel ghee visually made me think immediately of coconut oil. The fragrance reminded me of a combination of butter and lard like when I make a pie dough. It is inviting and comforting all in the same fragrance. I've never tasted camel milk before trying this product so I am not sure what it usually smells like. When I went to take some of the ghee from the bottle, I found it similar to working with coconut oil. There is slight softness to the ghee so when using a spoon, it scraped against the ghee easily and left a slight textured trail behind. When I tried a bit, it had a faintly sweet flavor and slightly grainy texture. It melted beautifully into a clear oil in the pan when I used it to fry eggs. There was a welcoming nutty aroma that wafts from the pan. Ghee has all the benefits of butter but minus the water content. It adds a richness to the dishes I added it to but I didn't have to worry about it browning or even burning. When cooking with butter, I usually add a touch of oil so I don't have to worry about a burnt butter flavor. This is where ghee is superior when cooking with it. When cooking with coconut oil, I usually could taste a very distinct flavor of coconut which makes it hard to use in certain dishes. The camel ghee had a more neutral flavor to me. It has a high smoking point at 450 degrees F. I can see the ghee being used in both savory and sweet dishes. There are approximately 20 servings per bottle. 1 Tablespoon is 120 calories. This product is Paleo Approved, Keto Certified, Gluten- Free, Non-GMO and Lactose Free. It is a Product of India. The product I received has a best by date of 5 months from the date I received it. It can be stored on the counter without issue or in a refrigerator. I think this would be a great product to include when making a homemade gift basket for a loved one.

I use this like coconut oil for cooking; it has a deep full-bodied flavor that I like
I have a friend who is Asian Indian and she cooks a lot with ghee (clarified butter). I had never heard of ghee before that. I know that ghee can be used like butter and actually spread on toast and other foods. However, since this is raw, I am uncomfortable consuming this without cooking with it to destroy any bacteria. There are so many warnings out on the Internet about consuming any raw milk product, that I take the safer route. This is made from camel milk and is a product of India. Desert farms distributes it and their website has some more information. Once opened, this can be stored at cold or room temperature. It can be eaten raw (I don't eat it this way for safety concerns) or fried (which is the way I eat it). It has a very high smoke point of 450 degrees Fahrenheit. It actually is hard like lard or coconut oil and melts like those oils too.I fried my eggs and potatoes with this and it gave them such a great flavor. It was full-bodied and deep, not necessarily nutty but delicious in a way I cannot describe. One tablespoon of this is 120 calories, so it is high calorie as are all oils and butters. It contains 45mg of cholesterol per tablespoon and there are no trans fats but it is obviously made up of saturated fat. I do not subscribe to the health benefits of frying or oils, except olive oil. Therefore, despite all the benefits touted on the Internet about camel ghee or ghee in general, I just dismiss them.  Note that this has a nine month shelf life and since this was packaged in December 2021 and I received it March 14, 2022, it is only good until August 22. This means by the time this is ordered and received, most will only have about 5 months to consume this nine-ounce jar in full. The current price of $35 is expensive but it does add a lot of flavor to fried dishes; at least in my opinion. If one can splurge, I highly recommend giving this a try.

Healthy Alternative To Butter
As much as one might try to avoid butters and other cooking oils, it can be difficult because you often need such a substance for cooking. This camel ghee is a good healthy alternative; albeit, quite expensive at $40 (today's price) for a somewhat small 9 ounce jar. Clearly this will be one of the more exotic foods in your kitchen.Easy to use and can be used raw or incorporated within your cooked foods. Honestly, I haven't had the nerve to try this raw yet, but it's pretty good for cooking. Once you start using this, you get to know the flavor profile and what foods you prefer to pair this with. It's fairly versatile and can be used pretty much anyway that you would normally use butter or several other oils. Of course, because of its somewhat thicker consistency, I wouldn't try using this for baking or making something like a salad dressing. Too thick for a dressing, but I suspect the highly experienced chef would know how to use this for something more complex like baking. For the rest of us, just plan on sticking with using this as a cooking oil or some sort of a spread and you'll be fine. The flavor is pleasant, clean and mild. Pairs well with many foods. I use to eat camel burgers which I've always enjoyed because they tasted so much cleaner to my palate than beef burgers. This too taste fairly clean though a bit different. Love having this as a choice in my kitchen.Nice packaging and the jar feels good in the hand.
