Great book
It arrived a little worn out at the edges, but nothing serious. The history is pretty amazing, really enjoyed, read it in less than a week

Gritty drama, you feel the heat.
I felt it became a bit obvious what was going on and how the story would end, but as with other books by the Author the setting is very realistic and the characters are well formed. I enjoyed it enough to read it in a day or two in the garden, didn't change to an alternative and come back "as and when" which for me is the test of a good read.

Australian outback
The Lost Man by Jane Harper is not so much a thriller as a family story with some hidden secrets and a suspicious death in the foreground. We learn a lot here about the life in the Australian outback - the setting of the novel, and the information is really exciting. I found the book rather slow going and longish - the plot proceeds at a slow pace as we plough through the lives of the protagonists and there is not much in the way of an investigation into the suspicious death. Generally, the book corresponds with what is written in this day and age, yet it's quite traditional too - a combination which works out fine but is not faultless. Even though I haven't been overly enthusiastic, I'm giving the book five stars because after all it was a pleasurable read. I'm not sure, though, if I will want to read more from this author. The Australian theme is exciting and rewarding, but the book would have to be shorter.

Jane Harper does it again!
Such beautiful writing, prose that is so crisp and a cracking story, I could not put this novel down. I had never been interested in murder mystery novels before reading Jane's books, and as an Australian was unimpressed and thoroughly un-entertained by the novels about our landscape and its harshness that I had previously read. I am impressed that as an ex-pat she gets us so well but writes about us with a freshness that only someone new to the country (and probably more appreciative of it) can do. Her knowledge of our landscape and its perils is so accurate and she brings it to life in a neutral way that I have not seen before i.e. not glamorizing it but also not dismissing its intrinsic beauty. Thank you Jane! Bronte Jackson
