Buffering issues
I got this because I needed another Android TV box to use KODI with so that my parents could enjoy their Filipino shows with a legally purchased subscription from TFC.tv. They already have the Matricom G-Box Q² Quad/Octo Core Android TV Box [2GB/16GB/4K] (Supports Amazon Prime Video!) set up in their room, but needed one for the living room in case they want to watch on the bigger TV screen or for when we have guests over. I was running the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote | Streaming Media Player in the living room, but sometimes KODI would crash when watching too much shows back to back, but for the most part worked well. I needed something with better specs and this A5X seemed perfect as I also got it on sale. The A5X comes pre-loaded with an older version of KODI. I couldn't get it to update to the newest version—17.1 "Krypton"—through the Google Play Store. Even after uninstalling the pre-installed version I ran into problems. The Google Play Store said KODI was "incompatible with this device". Not a problem as I sideloaded with an APK downloaded from their site, loaded it to a USB drive, then installed it with the already installed File Manager. This was pretty easy for me to do as I'm pretty tech savvy, but the average consumer might not know how to do this.I had problems getting videos to playback on KODI. Buffering issues was a big problem—video would play for a few seconds, stop, then play again for a few seconds. Eventually the app would just crash and close out completely. Speed isn't a problem as I have FiOS with 50/50MB upload and download speeds. The wireless router is only 12 feet away from my entertainment system so signal isn't an issue. Seller suggested I do a system restore, which I did, but it did not help. I ran into the same issues after restoring to factory default.Unfortunately, the Fire TV Stick performs better than this Android TV box. Will be returning this A5X—I guess i'll have to pay a little more and get the Fire TV box or another box that's more reputable.
