Possibly the definitive guide to the history and passion of the Monte Carlo Rally
OK, full disclosure. I've worked with all four of the collaborators on this book but it means I can honestly say you'd be hard pushed to put together a better team to tell this story.John Davenport is a former works co-driver, team manager and journalist whose knowledge of the sport's history is extensive and who can put the statistics and back story into perspective.Michel Lizin is a top class journalist with a genuine passion for the sport and the ability to convey that passion to the reader, reminding you that rallying (and the classic events in particular) is more than just cold, hard stage times.Reinhard Klein probably started the trend among photographers to get away from traditional front three-quarter 'sponsor' shots and use his lens as a canvas to capture the sheer beauty of the background against which the sport takes place.Colin McMaster is Klein's protege and yet very much his own man behind the lens, another who paints pictures with pixels and, in part thanks to a long-standing friendship with the late Richard Burns, has a deeper understanding of the sport and its characters than most.So put this quartet of artists together and the heavyweight result (almost four kilos of print matter...) is arguably the definitive guide to the most famous rally of all. The history, the crazy stories, the development and for the statisticians among you, the results, are all there in a beautifully-produced and slip-covered volume.Expensive, yes, but worth every penny. Will they reunite to cover some of the other great events? I, for one, certainly hope so...
