Review the notes frequently; there are straightforward operational procedures there.
Excellent book.Personal takeaway - it is not about what works - it is about what YOU do about the things that don't.Got the book as audio and as Kindle - for the whispersync.Review the notes frequently; there are straightforward operational procedures there.Brett writes concisely, and narration emphasizes that even more.No spoilers - but getting back up - that's what counts, be it is physical and even more when it is mental/psychological.Finishing with two quotes that clicked personally."Resilience is not about hard work toward short-term gains, but rather maintaining the long-term grind toward an ultimate goal. ""Am I committed to tackling the list of things that suck, knowing it will drive me closer to my goal?"

Awesome book
This was full of great concepts and relatable stories. There are many self help books out there like this one but this was more powerful and the steps provided actionable.

You don't know what you don't know until someone tells you....
In the pages of "Embrace the Suck: The Navy SEAL Way to an Extraordinary Life," a symphony of resilience and triumph resonates, urging us to embrace the crucible of challenges and sculpt our lives into extraordinary masterpieces. With poetic grace, this book paints a canvas of wisdom that ignites the fire within, urging us to forge our destinies with the unwavering spirit of a Navy SEAL.Step onto the shores of this literary ocean, where adversity crashes like waves upon the shore, not to break, but to shape. The author, with the precision of a craftsman, weaves tales of courage from the fabric of struggle. Each anecdote, a beacon, illuminates the path to transformation. As a reader, you find yourself standing shoulder-to-shoulder with these elite warriors, facing the tempests of existence head-on.The narrative dances between humility and audacity, each step revealing that embracing the "suck" is not mere resignation, but a transcendental dance with the shadows. The prose itself is a current that carries you into the depths of introspection, where the notion of comfort transforms into a cocoon of complacency begging to be shattered. With every turned page, you're propelled through the crucible, compelled to confront your own limitations. As sunlight pierces through storm clouds, the wisdom of the SEALs glistens. They teach us that failure is not the end but a passage—a rite of passage—that beckons growth. This book, this manual for life, compels us to savor discomfort, to harness it as a force of alchemical change. Through words that read like poetry, it preaches that the ordinary can indeed become the extraordinary, should we dare to venture beyond the realms of ease. The camaraderie of brotherhood, the unity amidst adversity, is a heartbeat that resonates through the narrative. This book is not merely ink on paper; it's a manifesto for those who choose to rise when the weight of existence threatens to drown. It weaves laughter and grit, pain and triumph, into a tapestry of inspiration that kindles a fire to conquer the impossible. In the end, "Embrace the Suck" is a hymn to human potential, a reminder that the depths of our spirit are profound, immeasurable. It implores us to embrace discomfort not as a foe, but as a partner, sculpting us into warriors of life. With prose that caresses the soul and lessons that stir the heart, it's an anthem that beckons us to waltz with adversity and emerge as champions of our own narratives.

Live this one, everyone should read!
This book was fantastic. I bought it on audible, thinking it would be good for someone else that is going thru a crappy season in life right now. I bought the paperback before I even finished the audible. My adult son has read it, my husband is going to read it next. As I was finishing up the audible, I knew I'm wanted to listen to it again, which I am doing now. Lots of great information in here. Lots of "f bombs" too, just know that going into it.

A MUST READ INCREDIBLE BOOK!!!!!!!
Embrace The Suck by former Navy Seal Brent Gleeson is an incredible book about how to mentally overcome adversity in our lives. This is so well written and weaves stories of Brent’s experiences as a Navy Seal into real world application. It’s a great read and so applicable in our daily lives, especially given the Covid pandemic the world is faced with today. I strongly recommend you buy this book as you will thoroughly enjoy it. Buy it for yourself as it can help anyone to deal with life’s challenges. Recommend it to your family, friends, colleagues, employees and anyone you know that is going through a difficult time!!! Brent, fantastic job with this book and thank you for your service!!!!! Chris Cordisco

Push the boundaries of your comfort zone.
DON’T BUY THIS BOOK - if you are committed to a life of mediocrity, completely content in your comfort zone, or wish for no greater purpose or path than the life you have now.If, however, you are looking for a 5-star shot in the arm to push you towards your goals and prepare you for the mental, physical and spiritual commitment required, I recommend you start embracing the suck, by grabbing your copy of.... Embrace the Suck.Former Navy Seal, Brent Gleeson (no relation….I think) authors this mission critical playbook on how to succeed in the battlefield of life. The lessons Gleeson aims to teach have wide ranging applicability in all aspects of our professional and personal lives and thus has broad appeal. The book is unexpected, in a good way. I wondered if a personal achievement guide authored by a former Navy Seal would be exemplified through tales of sacrifice, dedication and tragedy, leaving the reader feeling unexceptional in their own trivial and insignificant lives. Not at all. As expected, the book does present several harrowing accounts of Gleeson’s military episodes (both training and wartime), but what we learn early, and what Gleeson emphasizes throughout the book, is that these are stories of ordinary individuals accomplishing extraordinary things. How the author and others he references reached their goals, though, does not come by accident. This is the central theme of Embrace the Suck. The book holds no punches that the path ahead is bumpy, comes with setbacks, and requires grit. Gleeson’s goal is to train the reader on not only how to tackle these challenges, but in an almost perverse manner, run towards life’s discomfort head on and learn to love it while you do. I think it best here to borrow the author’s own words when he implores the reader to “embrace the suck a bit more. Push the boundaries of your comfort zone. Achieve loftier goals. Be more consistent. Build resilience. Bounce back faster. Get over the s**t that doesn’t matter. Spend less time and money on pointless crap. Remove the toxic haters standing in your path...or all of the above”.That is Embrace the Suck in a nutshell. My 5-star rating is contingent on the reader being self-aware. If you are looking for coddling and a warm hug from grandma, move on. This book is not for you. If you are prime for this type of firm and direct counseling, then dive in. Although the book is, unapologetically, a kick in the ass for us all (the final chapter is entitled “We’re all Going to Die, so Get Off Your A** and Execute”), it’s the vibe of the book that makes it so enjoyable. Whereas at this point in my review you may be thinking the book’s tone is reminiscent of Gunnery Sergeant Harman from Full Metal Jacket, the delivery is much more personable and relatable - like having a good talk over a pint with a best friend at the pub. Honest. Humourous. Caring. Helpful. And that works really well for me.This past week alone has seen me put Embrace the Suck into practice. As my 5:30 a.m. alarm rang out for my morning workout, my first impulse was to slam the snooze button. Immediately following, I’d then hear my inner voice scream out “Embrace the Suck” and I’d leap out of bed as if I loved it. (truth told, my inner voice also belted out “Bleep-you Gleeson!” - and I wasn’t talking about myself). Pushing through this discomfort already has me on track for my fitness goals for the year, and this book has proven to be a reliable workout buddy. If you are ready and you want it to work for you, Embrace the Suck is a priority read for 2021.
