Excerpt From Sun Up Ad (1963) "Sun Upmanship That's the name of the game. George goes around smelling like flowers in bloom. You go around with the manly scent of Sun Up after-shave. YOU get the girl. Gillette didn't pick flowers to find this new scent. We're not perfume people. We captured only the manlier, muskier, spicier scents of nature. And we came up with the scent that you wear like a man...like a man who's one up on the other guy." ["Sorry George, My Grandmother Just Flew In"] Sun Down is my take on a very classic, special aftershave scent from the 60's (63-69), Gillette's Sun Up ! I have been working on this scent for almost a year now with much trial and error...mostly error...but finally success, which was well worth the effort! I really can't say it better than their classic ad, but I'll try. Some have compared this juice to James Bond and what he'd wear, others relate it to that classic, working man scent! I subscribe to the latter scent description myself, in fact I find it very close to Aqua Velva...at least in the same club. Let me clarify, close to AV at first sniff, but during the course of the day and initial dry down it's own unique character shines through. In short, "Sun Up" was truly a perfect name for the stuff! If the 60's had a "smelltrack", there's no doubt this would be it for the everyday man on the street...and such an interesting time in our history (usa). Now for the scent: Talc, Oakmoss, Lemon, Petitgrain, Bergamot, Lavender, Rose, Animalic Musk, Clary Sage, Vetiver & Sandalwood. This my friends is a recipe for manly. The Soap Formula *Our CK high butter formula is loaded with high quality ingredients giving you the closest shave and leaving your post shave skin feeling smooth and soft. Aside from the Kokum, Shea and Cocoa butters you will also find avocado oil...the ultimate cocktail of skin food! AND though it may seem as such, there is ZERO Tallow or Lanolin in this formula!
